Wow o wow what a cool old time Drug store . The food is great , area is small the lines at 11.30 are long . Food worth it . We took grandkids an they loved it !
Go back in time...Mississippi's oldest still operational pharmacy and diner. Fabulous real milkshakes, good burgers, daily specials (Corinthians love their cornbread salad) and you must try one of Corinth's specialties, the slugburger (don't worry, no slugs involved). Fountain drinks also, and it is nestled in a beautiful downtown area with many nice little shops within walking distance. A must visit if in Corinth.
After visiting Corinth we had planned on visiting the Drug Store as it is listed as the old fashioned side fountain store. Maybe we were too late, lunches done and winding down. Who knows, but every single table needed clearing, still not to be outdone, we waited for the waitress to clear a table and sat down. We should just have had a coffee, but they were closing in about 45 minutes and were clearly in a rush, so we quickly ordered chicken tender sandwich with fries and three coffees. The coffee was ok, but when we asked for a top up she had to make some more - timing again? The sandwiches were ok, not quite as full as we wanted and the fries were overdone and hard, which unfortunately gave us time to look around. It was filthy. Without a word of a lie, if we had seen it before we would not have sat down. The drugstore counters were covered in dust, and behind them were piles of paper and rubbish and in them, glass fronted, rubbish was piled inside, the TV though switched off was also covered in dust, a child was running around without shoes, her feet were black the floor was so dirty, and when we asked for the restroom I was so disgusted I took pictures of the filth. I would suggest if you want to see it, then do so, take pictures, but eat elsewhere.. Dreadful
If you're anywhere near Corinth, Mississippi, it's worth the drive to stop for lunch at Borroum's Drug Store. It's a true piece of Americana with a great menu as well. Suggest you try the Slugburger - even if you just want to get one to share. We had a round of Patty Melts (delicious) and the Ham and Swiss Melt (fabulous) and don't forget the onion rings and top it off with a dish of ice cream if you have enough room. Everyone was friendly and efficient and we especially enjoyed our service from Megan. Also, if they have Cornbread Salad as a special, get your order in early as they sell out fast. Coming from a small town atmosphere ourselves, we loved it.
What a super find! The food in nothing out of the ordinary but the history of this building is extraordinary. It was established after the Civil War by a Confederate doctor. It has been the subject of many articles and TV feature presentations. We were lucky enough to meet up with the Great, Great Granddaughter of Borroum, Camille Borroum Mitchell. She had some great stories. Shelves and glass display cases are full of photos, memorabilia, and antiques. One has original pharmacy medications and bottles. This place brings a smile to your face.
I have told my daughter about a drug store that I used to go to as a child that made cokes from syrup and I was so glad to be able to let her see what I was talking about. We also ordered a vanilla milkshake that was awesome. The milkshake was served in a shake glass and the extra was served also. Delicious!
The food was great the soda jerks were fun to talk to definitely a small town vibe and the food was really affordable I would highly recommend it
Having read the reviews I find I have to disagree with the ones that chastise the store. We found it clean and a fun place to visit. Had a root beer float made with REAL ice cream (not that soft, pasty crap from fast food places), friend had a milk-shake. Shake made with real ice cream in a metal cup and the extra portion that was left over was provided to him to finish. I also used the restroom described by "Jan" and it was clean. It was also very old as was to be expected. The highlight of the stop was visiting with the young ladies working the counter while we enjoyed our drinks. Young barefoot girls came in for ice cream while we were there. Of course their feet were dirty, but how could they not be? This was a step back to my childhood when coke was made from syrup and soda, service mattered, and folks were friendly. Miss this stop on your trip, then you'll have missed on the of the reasons even to go on vacation.
I went at lunch time, and I can see why there are some complaints about the service. However to be fair, amid all the chaos, the servers did a great job of getting to everybody and part of the problem is they do a tremendous amount of takeout, which impacts the speed of service. However it was a fun and lively atmosphere and I really didn't mind the wait. My milkshake was absolute delicious and was made with real ice cream and was generous in size. Besides filling the glass they bring you the remaining part of the shake in the metal container they spin it in. My sandwich was okay, and I was told by a local that I would've been happier having hamburger which is a big favor there.Would absolutely return.
We had a nice lunch here I had the slug burger and enjoyed it and my wife had the cheese burger says its the best burger she has ever had the staff where busy musthave been take outs but we didn't wait any longer than other places for the food to arrive. Glad we stopped
