My daughter in law grew up going to this park, as did her parents and now her children! Beautiful gardens for relaxing or family photo's, and then there's the "dinosaur bones" and the locomotive for the kids to play on and the beautiful grass hills are perfect for rolling down!! Love it!!
Almost too many varieties of roses to keep track of. The great variety allows viewing and photos throughout a wide season. The paths join an extended hiking trail through the park areas that include historic train, bbq pits, picnic areas, etc.
The rose garden is quite nice, but I enjoy the dinosaur bones sculpture and general open space here...this is a nice laid back park whether you are local or visiting.
even tho this is the time of year for roses the small plantings in a typical urban park was simply not worth the visit-- it was fine for a city park but nothing special-- if you want a special walk try walking out Campus Way toward the OSU sheep barns and the covered bridge area- much nicer and lovely
This is a beautiful spot for your wedding photos. It's just gorgeous when all the roses are in bloom.
One of the best Rose gardens in Corvallis. Great place for families.
While reading one of our travel books, Hubs had discovered the Rose Garden at Avery Park since he knows how much I love roses. I was eager to go, but was disappointed once I arrived. We were there in August which should have been one of the peak times for the flowers. But the roses seemed neglected. They were sorely in need of pruning and appeared ragged and underfed. I realize that these are cared for by volunteers, but they could have done a better job. I understand that this wasn’t the Portland Rose Garden but I expected a nicer, well-kept garden. I wouldn’t come here for the roses, but Avery Park is a nicely kept park in general with lots of well-groomed open spaces. If you want a family picnic or a space for the kids to run around, then this would be ideal.
Best rose garden outside of Portland. Maintained in city park by the local rose society. Worth a visit. Includes walk ways for handicapped.
I love roses, particularly heirloom roses. I believe they are best when showcased with other plants, or arranged to delight the eye. This is just a large square area of the park with rectangular beds of roses, mostly tea roses. It is attractive only the couple of monthes while the roses are in bloom, and then there is no point to visiting. It should have been designed more creatively. However Avery Park is very lovely, with enormous old trees, an antique train, picnic tables, trails, excellent birding and expanses of grass.
What's not to love - arbors covered with roses in all sorts of colors, and beds of roses with the aroma so sweet, you can enjoy a quiet few minutes and wander or just sit and look around. A wonderful spot in Corvallis.
