People are getting a little ahead of themselves here in their reviews.......although the exterior does echo that of the famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, this is definitely NOT Paris. So if you have seen the real thing, this might be a bit of a disappointment, especially the interior of the church. That said, its still a lovely church with some beautiful stained glass windows and a few fantastic looking gargoyles "hanging out" on top of the facade. It is open to the public on weekdays (check their website for the hours) and worth a stop if you are in the area.
This cathedral was simply beautiful. It's open to the public from 10am-4pm for viewing and there's mass daily at 9:30am. We were in Cincinnati for a family vacation and decided to visit the cathedral on a Tuesday evening. We embarrassingly walked into a wake being held. We immediately apologized and started to leave. Apparently, the wake was for the cathedral's organist and everyone insisted that we stay to enjoy the sites because that's what he would have wanted. And although we felt very welcomed, we only stayed for a few minutes and decided to come back another day. When we returned later in the week, it was truly amazing to walk around and see all of the architecture. The enormous stained glass window is not to be missed. It was well worth a second visit. There's free parking in a lot right next to the cathedral. It's very easy to locate (we took the Roebling bridge over the river from Cincinnati).
We stopped here on our way out of town over Spring Break and it did not disappoint! The lady at the sign in table gave us a guide to the chapels and stained glass and we took nearly 1 hour to take it all in slowly. My children were enthralled. Very beautiful!
Maybe not a stop for all travelers but an awesome example of architecture similar to European cathedrals. Reportedly has the worlds largest stained glass window. Check the web site for times of self guided tours or your own special time for meditation. Take your camera!
The stained glass window is amazing and daily mass only 30 min long. Def worth stopping in for a little peacefulness and to appreciate the largest stained glass window in the country.
Staggering stained glass windows. 'Nuff said. Really. That's it. Staggering. Really. Sometimes fewer words are better.
This church is beautiful . I have been to many churches throughout Europe and it ranks right up there with them and it is in USA. It is open daily for visits till 4pm and they have mass everyday. The stain glass windows are worth the trip.
Absolutely gorgeous church. Huge beautiful stained glass windows. A must see if you are in the Cincinnati/NKY area regardless of your religion.
A trip to the greater Cincinnati area is not complete without a stop at this historic landmark. A church is given basilica ranking by the pope and their are only 35 basilicas in the U.S. I've been to many churches in the U.S., and this is definitely one of the most grand and beautiful I've seen. My wife and I visited on a Sunday afternoon in November and we were the only guests there. It was amazing to me that a place this beautiful (and free) did not have more visitors.
This church is amazing well worth seeing. One word "Amazing". Once inside you will have a greater appreciation for the beauty and the details of the building.
