We did the longer hike and really enjoyed it. Bring water! It's very desertlike at the peak of the 7 hour hike. A nice lake stroll as well, best at sunrise or sunset. Get a cab to take you there.
The Reserve is very close to Coyhaique and Puerto Aysen and has good infrastructure for hiking, camping and trekking. Trails go from easy to moderate and difficult and are all very clearly signalled all the way through. Try the trail to the very top of Cerro Cinchao. Take plenty of water, food and a camera. Stunning views!
If you love the outdoor and even if you don't this is a place in Patagonia not to miss. I agree with the other reviews to stay a while but alas we were only there for the day. Take your camera and take lots of pictures (even though they will not do the area justice) you can show your friends and family what they missed. The town itself isn't much to "see" but it does have a few nice coffee shops that are family run with very friendly staff who love to try out their English. What makes this area worth coming to is the outdoor beauty, peaceful atmosphere and unbelievable views. We will be back to stay longer!!
Spectacular views of the lagoons and the forest, very nice for trekking. Plenty of signs to indicate you the path.
Coyhaique is a must visit town if you decide to go to Patagonia!!Please dont make it as a quick stopover but instead stay for few days and explore it like the National Reserve! Such a beautiful place.. just bring jacket as it's too windy!
