took a ride there the other day and I would say it is by far one of the most beautiful wineries I have been to in VA and I have been to a lot. The wine is very good as well so in my book thats a win win. Great place to take a date pack a lunch have some great wine and enjoy the beautiful property. You will not be disappointed.
We arrived and were the only ones in the tasting room. The couple meeting us was a little late so we grabbed a glass and headed out around the house and the grounds. An adorable classic house with beautifully landscaped grounds. The have a fun life size chess board outside, a beautiful fountain, and once you walk past the vines a great sitting area and "island" in the middle. When you're walking around, you definitely get the "wow" factor! There is also a spot on the dock with padlocks on it that are "love locks" that people put on when they get married and have their names and wedding day etched in them. Very cute and it is now incorporated in peoples ceremonies. The wine was very good and the lady who did our tasting was very nice and informative on each and every wine. A wonderful classic winery with that relaxing cozy feel, a must stop if you are in the area!
This is a review for the site as a wedding venue. What a beautiful setting for a wedding! The outdoor ceremony took place on a small island in the middle of a small pond, accessed by a long bridge that focuses attention on the bride and wedding party arriving. The "altar" is an archway with a wine barrel underneath for the flowers to sit. The wedding couple attaches a lock to a small bridge to one side of the island. Late at night, we set off lanterns into the night sky. The reception was held outside also, next to the vines, at a fireplace just before entrance to the island; guests could drink, eat and watch the photos being taken on the island. Dinner was served in a large pavilion between the fireplace and the parking lot, just off the vines. Set up with tables, catering, a DJ, dance floor, and photo booth, the whole setting was lovely. The owner, Alysson, was outstanding in providing advice and assistance. I was the mother of the groom and de facto wedding planner, but for all those last-minute logistics of the ceremony, Alysson was a god send! This was one of the loveliest wedding settings I have ever seen. We were very happy. My complaint? The guests drank so much wine! We way underestimated what we needed, but I guess folks were really enjoying the wedding and the vineyard too! A great wedding in a great site.
My husband I headed here for our Fourth of July celebration. We were entertained by pleasant live music and a great breeze that blew across the vineyard. We brought our picnic lunch and chairs and no matter which direction we faced we had a great view! The wine was delicious and the ladies that did our tasting were informative and efficient.I plan on bringing friends and family back here to visit!
We travel to the area several times a year to visit a few specific wineries. We were told that this newer winery had some good wines so we added it to our limited list to try. We were delightfully surprised. It was a beautiful crisp fall afternoon and the outside tasting area was perfect for a tasting, then purchased a bottle and enjoyed Luigi's wood stove pizza with a bottle on the patio.Above average wine, fantastic pizza, stunningly quaint surroundings and friendly, down to earth people. The history of the home and the story of it's renovations adds to the charm. We will be back.
I found 2 sides to this winery. The winery and tasting area are amazing, and they do serve food. The grounds surrounding the winery are also very nice. We enjoyed spending time there. The other side....I didn't like their wines. Everyone has different tastes, so I'm sure it's good to the next person. Just not me. But it is worth stopping on your "wine tour" just to see the place. I would go back again....just for the tasting, not to buy!
There is something intimate and comforting about this winery. Outside, you look out to the vineyards and lovely landscape. Inside, there are lots of little places to sit and talk. The wine is quite good. This is a favorite for those times I want to buy from our local wineries.
My wife and I went to Old House Vineyard’s, to hear some live music that had been posted online, and to sample their fares. What a shame. The band was told to lower the music as to not be heard. Most of the patrons that were at the event, were there to see the band, and had generated a great deal of business. The band packed up after only one set, shame on the winery staff. The staff was completely overwhelmed with the volume of people the band had generated for the event. The pizzas took over 45 minutes to get. Cost clearly outweighs service and would not waste your time to travel to this destination.
My wife and I were traveling through on route 3 and just pulled in. What a beautiful place. There is lots to offer and they keep adding more. A new brick oven is being built outdoors right now!
We have been to more than 30 vineyards throughout central and northern Virginia, and Old House is our favorite of them all. The grounds are beautiful, the staff consistently friendly and helpful, and the wine is spectacular. If the weather is nice, enjoy a glass of delicious chardonnay while playing chess on the giant board out front. Cold outside? Have a glass of Wicked Bottom (our favorite- a lovely chambourcin) by one of the fireplaces in the beautiful farmhouse. A great place to visit, and one we return to again and again.
