wow it was great..and had lots of fun with family n friends
One of the mst beautiful Mountainous areas I've ever seen! A bucket list visit that you'll talk about for years to come! Going in the Fall on a sunny day just made it even more amazing! Little Shepherd's Trail is paved but "a one small lane only" passing is near to impossible but achievable if necessary, to an experienced driver who can back it down in an SUV to a pull off mountain view look out! You can camp, picnic, horseback, and hike! This mountain is full of bears, Oh My! I will return because I want my children to experience the beauty of God's creation! What a wonderful memory, LOVED IT! <3
They say you can see bears there but we never did...not in the eight months we spent in town. But the views are breathtaking...go check it out
Wow, this is simply a do not miss place for travelers who covet mountain views. It was simply inspiring even on a cold misty raining day. It was like stepping into a descriptive passage in a John Fox Jr. novel... Sweeping views of 'The Cumberlands' that are simply stunning. Drive the Little Shepherds Trail from ky. 160 onto the park. It's a blast (and that section is paved). the trails are short and each is worth it. This park is absolutely worth getting off the beaten path to visit. Then make your way to Bad Branch Falls, 8 miles south of Whitesburg.
I was in awe at the scenery. Had a new camera and experimented with panoramic shots, many of them came out, some not so good. It was so quiet and peaceful there. We hit it just right, early morning hardly any people. We took the Little Shepherd road, we did meet a car as we were going down, was a bit hairy for a few minutes but we edged over as far as we could, they did the same and we got past each other. Would love to come visit again some day.
Long windy mountain roads, views that will take your breath, sights that will take you back in time. So high up. How can one describe the beauty the Lord has made?
Love this place! Simply beautiful, happy its so close to home. I have wonderful memories from my childhood here. Just watch out for hornets! There not nice. :( No reflection what so ever on the park, just my bad luck.
Visited the park on a trip back to Harlan Co. Used to go to Kingdom Come frequently back in the 50s and 60s. It has only become better. The views are amazing and the serenity/tranquility you feel overlooking the lake (even on a rainy day) is unparalleled If you are in the area, make a trip up the mountain/hill to take in this park.
This park is found in the heart of the Cumberland Plateau and offers some wonderful views. There are numerous trails for hiking, but, being in the mountains, you may need to rest as you make your way up the mountain. Once there, though, the trails level out and the hiking is lovely. There are a couple of overlooks on the "back" part of the park along the Little Shepherd Trail. I would recommend taking in the 12 O'Clock Overlook as it truly shows you just how high up in elevation you are. There are also numerous picinic areas and a pone (for fishing and paddle boats) for recreation.
I visit here timw to time since I live just down the road from it. A very beautiful area if your into wildlife, nature, scenic views and more. Has some awesome views of the rolls of mountains. There is a camp site and shelters to cookout along with 2 small park areas for kids. And if your into fiahing there is a. Pond there that is nice to with the gift shop there. Lots of hiking areas to. Great place.
