This place is really neat you get to see all the carriages that have been built, but I will have to say the place is small. I haven't been there in a while so I don't know if they charge you anything or not.
Contains many carriages/horse-drawn vehicles of our past. Not sure if it is still open.
The Thrasher Carriage Museum in Frostburg, Maryland is amazing. I did not know what to expect and the exterior of the building did not give me a clue. Very nondescript, but nice. The building seems something of a puzzle as is seems much larger on the inside, than it looks on the outside.Once inside, even if you never knew that you might find carriages interesting, you will be surprised and pleased. Everything from simple, working buckboards to glamorous, fully-loaded conveyances of the day. A hearse, a milk truck and sleighs that Santa would envy. Gorgeous, velvet-upholstered carriages with brass trim and leaded glass headlamps, a surrey with fringe on top, so many I can't remember them all. Tons of them! This is a great museum and a complete surprise to me. I could not have imagined that I would find so many lovely carriages inside...or that it would be so much fun to look at them.Great for families, school groups, history buffs or anyone remotely interested in history or antiques.
This is an unusual collection of very nice carriages and sleighs. It is a small two story museum that doesn't take too long to go through.
This modest museum is located across from the Frostburg station for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and is only open limited hours, basically when the train is there in the early afternoon. Admission is included with the price of the train excursion, or can be purchased separately if you are not on the train. There are 25-30 historic carriages with examples from all of the typical varieties. The docent that was on duty when we were there was personable and informative. If you are on the train make sure you stop in before the whistle blows - or arrange to visit of you are in the region.
Had some very nice pieces on display with very interesting facts about the items. Free admission with a ticket from the steam train
This was very nice little trip with very helpful staff.Museum free with ticket from steam train.Lot's of old horse drawn vehicles. You can take pictures if you like. If you are taking the steam train & getting off to visit Frostburg. This is a better option than the hike up the steps to see Frostburg.
The little carriage museum at the train station has an interesting selection of old horse-drawn vehicles. Assorted period amenities displayed with and on the carriages brings them alive in the imagination. This is a good 30 minutes visit and worth the time.
Various carriages, sleighs, etc. Ignore the signs that say no photographs. The staff welcomed photos. The ladies were well informed and engaging. Donations accepted....be sure to help if you can.
This small but comprehensive museum was a very pleasant surprise and great way to fill time before the train headed back to Cumberland. They have a beautiful and varied collection on two floors of many types of carriages and sleighs, including a milk wagon. There are a few life-size model horses showing some of the beautiful tack they often wore. I highly recommend this place! Admission is free with a train ticket.
