Walked the trail a couple of times during a recent business trip. It runs behind a number of motel so it's literally right there. It's an easy walk and it was nice to see folks out with their dogs - helped with my "missing-my-dogs-at-home syndrome." It runs along the Missouri and right into town. The weather was beautiful so it was far better than hitting a treadmill.
Wonderful trail for walkers, bikers, runners, and strollers. The mighty Missouri River is right at your side as you travel the trail around the community of Great Falls. Visit the World's shortest river, a fish hatchery, view cliff swallow, picnic, fish a pond/rive, view dams, geese and other water fowl as your progress the trail. Fun place for romance, family outing and a solo run.
This is a nice place to hike if the weather is nice. Having read a book like undaunted courage makes the location interesting.
This trail offers a nice shady walk but unfortunately the opposite side of the river offers some vistas that are less than appealing. Enjoyed the exercise, not the view.
Running, walking, biking - don't miss it! Well maintained and always improving. What a wonderful addition to this city!
We are walkers and observers/birders. We would have done more if we had the time. Maybe bicycle out to then end. There are bicycle rentals nearby. It's just well done. The people are friendly. There are directional signs and maps at most/all intersections. There are some dog parks too.
Traveling from Yellowstone to Glacier, we stopped in GF for lunch and then drove to the dam area for a after lunch walk. The falls and dam are beautiful, very quiet and lots of diverse plants to observe. Refreshed and ready to tackle the last portion of our drive
Okay, to be fair, G. Falls is centrally located and most outdoor activities require a bit of a drive. That said, River's Edge Trail is an excellent place for running, biking, rollerblading, etc. Some areas are a little on the rough side for blading. Recently discovered the trail area near Rainbow dam/good for trail running and mountain biking. River's Edge Trail isn't exactly a "destination" but worth your while to take advantage of if you live or are staying in G. Falls for an extended period of time.
We have visited different sections of this trail on different visits to Great Falls and loved it every time. It's a beautiful, paved, right-on-the-Missouri-River path that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy, and connects many of Great Falls' best landmarks. This trail is truly one of the best features of GF!
If you just traveled into Great Falls and you need to stretch your legs, you can do part of this trail along the river. The bird viewing was great - but I'm told you need to travel further out of town to get to the best parts of this walk.... Do so, because sticking to the Great Falls area made this "just ok."
