The information specialist provided a great overview of Deadwood and thoroughly explained all events and activities. I was happy to hear her opinion as to whether or not the HBO Series "Deadwood" was true to the historical facts. Well worth the stop for information!
Roomy, cool, friendly, informative starting point for visiting Deadwood. There are a bazillion pamphlets on local activities and attractions. We were delighted to find a walking tour pamphlet that was a self guided tour around the downtown area - informative and took us a couple hours because we kind of stopped in some stores along the way. Lots to see during the Sturgis biker rally too! Nice bathrooms at the visitor center and it was very clean overall - a welcome oasis as a traveler. There is also parking nearby for $5 all day.
A must to visit, town maps, historical information and rooms still with original fittings from an era past.Worth a visit just to get maps and info of Deadwood
Very nice visitors center located in an old train station. You can get a map of the town and the staff will help with any questions.Bus tours are adjacent to the building.Only 1 block to main street and they have metered parking there.
The gunfights and the cast for the gunfights are a highlight of the Deadwood experience. They are very nice people, friendly and good with the kids. I watched Calamity Jane play poker with a bunch of kids and I think I overheard her say she was cheating. :) But they really care and they are having a great time and they are doing a great job.
Ultra nice. Provided all the info we needed and then some. Gave us a map and told us turn by turn, times for all the shows, and made suggestions. Deputized the children. Stop by.
The chamber is very helpful if you need information about Deadwood and the Black Hills area. Deadwood is known for its gambling, and in recent years has been struggling with several businesses closing recently. We decided next time we are staying in Keystone, as in the summer of 2014 it was pretty slow and quiet at Deadwood with not a lot open. The few stores that were open deserve a 5 and hopefully it picks back up again!
We came to Deadwood in late October for a Convention, we were a group of 15 persons. I had informed the lady working there and she prepared for me a big box with 15 packages full of info of Deadwood and the area. I appreciated immensely. Thank you again!!!
Stopped here to find out how to get to Mt. Moriah Cemetery. location is in the old train depot. Helpful staff with lots of literature.
Just got back from a week in South Dakota and it was amazing! Had no idea how many cool things there would be to see and do. Deadwood was so warm and welcoming--every person in town was helpful and friendly and they are making a great effort to provide family-friendly history for everyone who visits. The re-enactment of Wild Bill Hickok's murder, the street shootouts, and the Trial of Jack McCall were all great fun (and free-to resonably-priced). Definitely worth the trip and I'll be going back with more family someday soon!
