I expected more for my $25. The zoo is in need of a lot of maintenance and I feel concerned that some of the animals are in cages not suitable for them. One small glider only had a small hollowed out branch in his cage and seemed distressed. You can hand feed kangaroos but one seemed a bit possessive of the food and followed us.I hope the zoo is maintained better in the future.
pretty small, but we did get to hand feed some of the wallabies and roos here so that was fun. Great bird collection.
Great range of animals and the lady was very knowledgable. Room was nice. We thought overpriced, especially for this time of year (their rainy season). Don't think it is necessary to charge entry to the zoo when you are spending hundreds on accommodation.
We came across this small zoo & had little expectation. However, we stayed for 2 hours & was suprised with the range of animals that were here. There is a big bird collection for the bird lovers. The kangaroos know you have food and it so cool that you can feed them. Even more amazing was that the food was part of the entrance fee(thankyou!!!) The young dingoes were so friendly as they have been there since pups. The wombat was a highlight. How often have you been to a big zoo and the wombat is sleeping in its burrow. This cute pudgy fella came out to say hi and wandered around. The quolls jumped on the cage to see what we were doing also. Definitely better than i expected! Very rare you get to be up so close to the cage where the animals are. You dont get that close in the big zoos. Definitely worth going if you into animals.
This is a unique experience and well suited to all those who want a close and personal encounter with all those inhabiting the zoo - be they quadrupeds or bipedal! I loved the crocodile enclosure and had the chance to see them feeding but the cuddly animals are prone to follow you and delight the children! Once the zoo is closed you are welcome to view the grounds in private and it was a pleasure to wake up with a dawn chorus from such a wide group of inhabitants! The hosts were friendly and accommodating and breakfast was hearty.
Stayed for five days with m 3 children from NZ. It is an incredible experience for children to be staying amongst the zoo. Donna and Gill with the help of Marina and Michael couldn't have made us more made welcome. We have travelled a lot with our children but this is a very unique and special experience. They can spend as much time with the animals as they like and because there is not a lot of accommodation the experience is very personal. With being only 90 minutes from Cairns it was a great combination doing both! They also have perfect family accommodation!
We have had a fabulous and fun time staying at The Daintree Zoo. Donna & Gill have been so lovely and welcoming. We have fed and talked to the animals, we will miss them when we go. Rooms were just fine. Location was the best! So glad we stayed there and not in the Daintree Village like we thought we would. We were very central to everything. Definitely made the right choice. Mossman great for dining out and Port Douglas only 40 mins away. Great place to 'base' yourselves in the Daintree! Would definitely stay there again.
We have 4 kids and this is their favourite place to visit in Far North Queensland. We discovered this place by accident and are so glad we did. Where else in the world can you stay in a real zoo? The rooms are clean, large and kid friendly, very reasonably priced and the breakfast wonderful. Both the pool and kangaroos are literally just outside your door waiting to be hand fed, the kids loved it!The zoo itself is also fantastic experience and the owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. If you stay you can even wander around at night and see the nocturnal animals. The owners rehabilitate and hand raise a lot of injured native wildlife so there is the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the animal residents. If you are an international visitor, have kids or love native animals, definitely book yourself in for some overnight accommodation. Just don't forget the mozzie spray in the wet season.
If you don't get to see crocs on a 'Croc Cruise' you can see them here! Lots of animals (for a small zoo) - look well looked after.
My wife and I were staying here for one night this August and we loved the supersized bed. Make sure you will book for dinner at the restaurant too, you will not be disappointed! I wish we had more time to stay a little longer, we'll be back again next time we go up to North Queensland.
