We stayed in Lutsen, Minnesota for 5 days and travelled to Grand Maris for sightseeing and the restaurants nearby. The visitor center was very informative and if you are traveling to the Northshore, this is a great place to stop.
They are friendly and know what they are talking about. They know where things are. They have great maps and knowledge of the area.
Went before the dinner rush, had the bergundy beef soup, yummy! My husband had the walleye sandwich, it was huge! And very good. Good selection of micro brews,
Anything you need to know about the North Shore is all here. The woman at the center was very knowledgable and helpful with all questions we had about hiking. She gave us easy directions to Eagle Mountain plus recommended a hike in town we didn't know about, Sweethearts Bluff. It turned out to be a really nice hike. She also gave us information about restaurants in town and other things to see and do. Definitely worth the stop.
I love history and their is so much here. You will learn here what there is and what your usage may be. Then go explore..Aside from that this trails is not crowded and has literally hundreds of places to hunt, fish, use all terrain vehicles, boats, bikes and camping...It is a outsiders best kept secret...hiking, too..It has something for everyone and more...
Every year we go the Boundary waters canoe area we have to stop here to pick up our permit to enter the BWCA. This usually involves a ten minute video explaining the rules and philosophy of the Boundary waters. They have very knowledgeable rangers working there and you can purchase maps here as well. They have quite an array of taxidermed animals and historical information regarding the Gunflint trail (which leads to the BWCA).
very interesting place to walk through. always get good things or ideas for gifts for friends and family.
It was remarkable. Trails were well marked and groomed. I am not a sledder by any means but my husband, myself and some friends had an incredible time the two days we spent riding those trails.
A favorite place to camp as a kid, we went here with my dad just so he could see it once more. Loved seeing the area again as an adult. The weather was perfect. We did some shopping in town and then had lunch. We drove up the Gunflint and stopped in several places to enjoy the view.
The staff knows the area very well and can tell you almost anything that's available to do on the North Shore.
