Colter Bay employees don't seem to strive to please the customer!! We arrived late in the day and wanted to use their water activities;it was late in the day and only 1 hour before closing yet they still wanted to charge the 2 hour minimum! We walked out. As we left, we saw a different watercraft that had an hourly rate, so we turned and walked back in; the clerk put up a "closed" sign as we re-entered and he was ADAMANT that he couldn't help us!! The COLTER BAY CABINS- were spartan!!! Not even a hair dryer!!! The beds were shorter than normal size. If you want a cabin in the woods- OK... but know its SPARTAN!!!
Quiet and peaceful. Clean and comfortable cabins. No wifi in cabins but it's available in the office. It was on the cooler side while we were there and the small heaters kept the cabin nice and toasty.
We stayed in a RV pullthrough site in loop A just behind the grocery and laundry buildings. It was a nice site and would have been a 5 star for all the amenities and activities but for 2 things. They charge $4.25 for a shower which is by far the most expensive fee we've ever seen in our camping travels and after paying what we thought was a pretty high nightly fee to camp we were surprised at the high charge. The second problem which was just our bad timing (end of August), was they were cutting and grinding numerous piles of tree limbs just behind the store and laundry facility for the full 2 days we were there. You could hear the loud grinding even on our morning horseback ride a mile or so down the road, but the sound right there in loop A was just obnoxious - it traveled throughout the whole region, definitely not what you think of having to listen to when traveling to such a beautiful spot. I wish they had told us about the planned chipping operation ahead of time or at least reduced the fees for the high level of noise pollution we were forced to listen to - at least the workers had ear protection.
Stayed in a cabin and it was nice. As it was fall, and it got down below freezing each night, the heater worked hard to keep us warm. Need to remember to bring warm clothes for the cabin, slippers for cold feet, and such. Lovely location.
Tent camped 2 nights at Colter Bay Campground with our kids (9 and 7). The bathrooms were pretty good. The shower facilities were moderately mildewed - and if cleaner I would have given 5 instead of 4. We had a close encounter with a mule deer who was probably the rightful inhabitant of our site. We took a nice walk to Jackson Lake and saw a fantastic sunset over the lake and Tetons.
Nice RV park with good services. It would have been nice to have sites with a lake/mountain view. However it is a very short walk to the lake. There is no fire pita in the RV park but there are right next door on the campground. Would of like ones in the RV park too. Quiet campground all around. Abysmal wifi though. You have to go to the laundry facility where signal was poor. Ahh must be getting soft when that's the big complaint. Just so used to it at many other parks.
I have come back to this place for more years then I can think of. The cabins are a bit rustic but that is the charm about them. They are clean the water is hot in the showers and the smell of the pine just outside your door is wonderful. My children from when they were young till after college have always enjoyed them as well. With the lake just a short hike away and the ranger talks at night this place is a must stay.
Hermitage Point Trailhead starts from Colter Bay parking lot. It consists of a network of trails that go by Jackson Lake, Swan Lake and Heron Lake. Nice walk for a couple of hours or for longer if you are not in a hurry.
We spent 2 nights tent camping at colter bay last week. What a beautiful place. Very serene and quiet. Nice tent spots. Great bathrooms. Loved it.
We had some fun hikes at this area, and it was close to Jackson Lake lodge. The views from the lakeside trails were some of our best photos on the trip.
