Located in the main square of Debrecen city, it's definetly a tourist attraction and on the stairs in front of this church there are always a lot's of young people.
Its a very beautiful place! I gone in a very hot day, and the flowers and the fountain was just amazing... The view Of all the buildings are incredible.
As long as you're not afraid of heights, take the time to climb the stairs to the top of the bell tower where you get a stunning view over the city.
beautiful to look at, and a nice backdrop for a chilled afternoon walk.the area fits the image I had in my mind of the style of architecture - like other areas of europe, such as las ramblas in barcelona.... but much, much quieter.
This church which is significant in the history of reformation in Hungary, commends the great square in Debrecen, which is a large city in the eastern part of Hungary. While the church itself is very bare and simple ,reflecting its status as the center of reformation in Hungary, the square it commands is surrounded by beautiful buildings and large boulevards . I was there during the Christmas season and the Christmas market on the square was exceptional ; the wares were all locally made, the food also highlighted the local flavors, the palinka (strong liquor ) stands offered many excellent choices to try and buy and the atmosphere was relaxed, joyous. The prices were also much better than at the Budapest and Vienna Christmas markets.
You can find it on the main street (a walking street) and you can visit it. you can also climb up to its tower. the area is perfect for a visit, as it has many many places to sit in (for lunch, dinner, coffee, dessert, ice-cream).
This large church has excellent decoration and is worth a stop. It has the added plus of being cool on a hot summer day. No charge to go in, but you do pay to climb the nearby tower.
This church is one of the biggest Calvinist churches in the World, certainly the largest in Hungary. Simple but elegant design sets it apart from the often over-decorated Roman Catholic churches, it shows class while impresses with its sheer size and harmonious proportions. You can climb up into one of the towers for a great view of the main square of Debrecen, although getting up there can be difficult - there are steep, narrow stairs and ladders to negotiate.
This is a typical calvinist church, simple inside and with a beautiful view up from the bell tower. I definitely recommend to take the trip up there if you are without young children. One of the things to do while you are in Debrecen.
