This is by far the very best doggie beach in SoCal and any beach for that matter catering to your pups that I have ever seen.
Love the wide expanse of beach, where dogs can run off leash during the winter. The cliffs to the north are beautiful, and the line of ocean front homes to the south are scenic as well. If a dominant dog shows up with a clueless owner, there's plenty of room to put a distance between them and your well behaved pet. Share the beach with volleyball near the road. There is fresh water, litter bags, and conveniently placed cans for waste. Lots of parking is along the main road, but be sure to fill the meter.
This place is pure heaven for dogs. It is a beautiful beach and if you go at low tide there is lots of beach to run and play on. Parking is the only pain. If you come during a busy time it is really hard to get parking. Try to come during a slower time. Parking is on the road but you do have to pay. Dogs and people are friendly. You and your pooch will have a marvelous time here.
Great for walking on when tide is out. Mostly friendly dogs, with friendly owners.Loved how clean it was....going at high tide nit the best time...too crowded
Be careful of the tide... especially if you walk north around the bluffs... you may get caught off guard if the tide is coming in. Pretty much anyone living in Solana Beach has family pictures on their wall taken here. Very picturesque.Oh... and also... good place to bring your dog year-round.
We are long time residents of North San Diego County, and our dogs have always just loved a great trip to the beach. What many visitors to SD don't realize that canines are not allowed on our public beaches for obvious reasons but at dog beach it is all about the pups. Can result in a pricey fine.Big or Small there is every variety of dogs there. Anywhere from the water lovers to the chasers to the sunbathers. With that kind of circus of activity going on, it is a remarkable thing that the pups all get along fairly well. There is always a grumpy on site, but the other learn quickly to bypass that one.It is a great place to socialize too. Everybody loves to talk about their pets. There are no benches or seats, so bring your own. Would not recommend this as a place to picnic or a family reunion with all the dogs having free run of the place, although I have seen the vollyball nets set up. I would recommend this wonderful place to all animal lovers, from the locals to the travelers. It goes without saying a good day at the beach generally with a nice bath and peaceful sleep afterwards.
I love hanging out with my dogs so being able to take them to dog beach is awesome, they run and play. Check rules, some times they need to be on a leach....all the dogs are running around, playing ball and Frisbees!!
Been here multiple times with my giant dog and always had a blast. MOST owners are very responsible but there might be a few who just don't watch their dogs. Great Great Great
Lots of dogs, nice beach, but watch for bacteria stagnant water sometimes causes problems.Skin rash etc…
WHAT A BLAST!!! Our GSD pasted a few years back, but that doesn’t mean that we couldn't go to Dog Beach aka North Beach in Del Mar California. DH surprised me and we visited Del Mar for the Valentine’s Day weekend; going here was the icing on the cake. We spent the better part of an afternoon just walking and watching the activity. The puppies are so oblivious to anything other than the other doggies and their balls. As you come towards the shore from any “Coastal Access”, you’ll find large bins brimming with tennis balls. It seems to be an honor system and fur-kid-parents return them to the containers on the way out; that is if they can get them away from the pooped pups. What a fun way to spend an afternoon.
