An excellent trail--one of the gems of the Western suburbs of Des Moines. You can easily walk, run, or bike almost any time of the day because it's not overly crowded. If you are a serious road biker, I would not recommend because the path can be a little rough in some parts, but for walking, running, or casual biking, it can't be beat.
Enough twists in the path that running 3+ miles isn't monotonous. Also there are playgrounds right on the trail is several parts so it's fun to do family bike rides. A big negative can be the speed racers getting ready for RAGBRI - slow down or get on the road!
Wonderful bike trail-we started on 100th street and rode to Greys lake and the state capital. Very good signs and directions on the way.
Well marked, maintained, wooded urban trail linked to 500 miles in the surrounding communities and rural areas. Very enjoyable with very few street crossings. There are occasional city parks with facilities along the trail. Deer sightings are not uncommon. Enjoy!
This Greenbelt is a great extension of the Clive neighborhood west of 86th Street, and yet in the summer, you can't see any of the nearby homes. Mostly shaded & full of nature and it is runs alongside Walnut Creek, with picturesque bridges spaced throughout.
This trail is one of my favorite to go running on. It offers very nice cover from the sun during the summer time without being buggy. It winds its way all through Clive with great places to view the creek, several parks and also several great places to get off and grab dinner or a beer!
I enjoyed a mellow ride along a pretty stream on a retal bike from my hotel. Its great to be able to cruise a little and get a nice work out in after a day at work in a city away from home. This paved bike/running trail was well maintained and had numerous bridges and water stops. the other cyclists were respectful and nice as they passed. I am very pleasantly surprised by this trail and it has changed my whole outlook on Des Moines, you locals should be proud.
The trail has a nice surface but winds back and forth for a good distance when closer to Clive. I was also harrassed on the trail in the Clive area by a young man. He tried to get me to stop but I got past him. Once past the winding part, it is great riding. I want to ride to Jefferson this summer. Not my favorite Des Moines trail but maybe it will be once I ride to Jefferson.
for bikers, runners and joggers, this is a great trail
