This is an amazing sight to behold... an entire side of a mountain, enclosed with a roof and walls, FULL of skeletons of dino's who met their fate millions of years ago. There are lots of displays, and one place where you may actualy touch one of the leg fossils in the rock. Worth the trip out to the National Park to see.
Come here to see hundreds of partially excavated dinosaur bones swept to one spot by an ancient river. The riverbed tilted to become a hillside, now covered by a building so you can see the bones in comfort. One section at ground level is unprotected so you can see the bones right up close and touch them if you'd like to. Enter at the top of the building by taking the ramp up. The displays will make more sense that way than if you enter by the lower level door. The ramp makes things easily accessible by wheelchair or stroller.
What more can I say - this place was fantastic and really well organised with a frequent free shuttle from the visitor centre to the quarry site (or a 1 mile-ish walk each way). The kids loved it, we loved it, and we all got to actually touch dinosaur bones. Hooray!
they have a lot of fun and interesting attractions. lots of history and they have videos. they also have a trolly ride up to where the wall of bones are and the kids can now touch some of the bones. i have a 4 year old and he LOVES it there. he has acutally been there twice since they re-opened and he wants to go again!
..well...and since it's the largest accumulation of Dinosaur bones even we consider it a must...;-) So, if you are in the area and have an hour to spare after visiting Dinosaur Monument, this is the place to go!
We had an amazing time looking at this big hillside full of dinosaur bones. It was so cool. Our boys really loved it. You even get to touch a fossil. The kids really love the Jr. Ranger Program!
A visit to Dinosaur National Monument is not complete unless you visit the Dinosaur Quarry. There are hundreds of dinosaur fossils that were uncovered on the mountain side and now on protected display in a covered building. You can even touch one of the fossils. A Park Ranger is available to provide additional information and to answer questions.
The Dinosaur Quarry Visitor Center at Dinosaur National Monument is awesome! There are very few other places in the world that have the sheer number and wealth of dinosaur fossils on display as the "Dinosaur Wall" at this quarry. In fact, there are nearly 1500 dinosaur bones visible in the cliff face of the world-famous Carnegie Quarry! Many new species of dinosaurs have been discovered at the quarry and dinosaur bones from Dinosaur National Monument are on display in museums throughout the world. Dinosar National Park is a great place to visit if you are interested in dinosaurs and paleontology and fascinating even if you aren't. To see the Carnegie Quarry you must be escorted by a Park Ranger. Tours are scheduled everyday and multiple times throughout the day. Check the park's web page for more information. The museum at the vistor center doesn't have much to see so you'll really want to see the quarry. I promise, it's awesome.
So cool to see all the dinosaur fossils. And you can even touch some of them! Our young boys were enthralled, and so were we as adults! Really well done.
This is a "must see" if you are interested in this type of thing (national parks, science & nature). If you have kids/grandkids it's great too! Imagine seeing a wall full of dinosaur bones!!!! Go, by all means!
