Had the opportunity to taste all the wines the other day for the first time in a couple years, and, WOW!, they still blow my mind with the complexities and unique tastes. Each wine with its own character. Cabernet Sav still my favorite!
This is our fourth or fifth time to La Chiripada. Love the wines, especially the whites. The special reserve Riesling is tremendous. Always a friendly tasting session. I heartily recommend La Chiripada to anyone. We take someone new there every year - never heard anyone say anything but good things. Enjoy!
found La Chiripada on a road trip 20 years ago and re-discovered it again this weekend. The wines are award winners and worth the side trip on the way to Taos or Santa Fe. And talk about location, location, location...Dixon is a hidden treasure.
We really like taking an afternoon to visit La Chirapada. The winery and tasting room is a very cool, old adobe compound with a very unpretentious and approachable tasting room. The tastings are free and the wine is spectacular! Certainly will continue to visit this great winery!
It's worth finding and driving to, hidden in the beautiful canyons of Northern New Mexico. The wine maker opened the tasting room for our group of six (he was officially closed, making a New Year's Eve dinner for a friend...but forgot to change the "open" sign). That fact made it welcoming. The winemaker is knowledgeable, good wines, and even though we were somewhat rushed, he took his time to let us sample. We bought 3 bottles (speaks for the quality of the place and wine), enjoyed the brief moment, and let him get back to his dinner and we to our Taos destination.
I have come to this winery for 2005. Always getting some fine wines here to take home to Oklahoma.Service and people are always awesome.
I read the review citing "rude behavior" and wondered who that writer encountered at La Chiripada. My wife and I love the wine this little place creates, order it through the mail, and always pay a visit when traveling in New Mexico. We've always been treated like "regulars", and this time spent some time talking with the owner about life in Dixon and that part of New Mexico. We returned home with two cases of La Chiripada wine in the trunk: Canoncita Red, Rio Embudo Red, and a couple of their whites. Delicious.
One of our favorite places in the whole Santa Fe area. Wonderful wine made by a local family for some 30 or 40 years. The walls are decorated with the owner's art and the wine tasting was super tasty and fun!
Just came across this place going from Santa Fe to Las Vegas. Well worth the stop. A very pleasant young lady assisted us in choosing the Riconada red and it was an excellent choice. I believe she said this was one of the earliest wineries in New Mexico.
The wine was excellent. We kept to reds.and were very pleased with the tasting. We purchased a few bottles...some to enjoy during the Taos trip and others to take home. The tasting room manager was very friendly. We will return. They ship...so buy!!!
