We love De Bortoli at the Yarra for both its beautiful wines and friendly, knowledgable staff. As fans of the brand, we visited the Cellar at Hunter Valley, and were sorely disappointed by the lady who attended to our tasting. She rushed us (even though we wanted to taste only 4 whites), explained nothing, and only offered a begrudging one-liner when asked about the difference between their normal and their Vat lines. We picked up a few whites, but the entire bitter experience made us appreciate Yarra's De Bortoli even more greatly. The staff here at Yarra have always been sweet, and the experience delightful. Hence, we keep returning to the cellar to buy their wines, instead of purchasing at bottle stores. There are stunning, picturesque views outside, with rolling vineyards, where you can have a glass of wine, set against lovely manicured trees. Their restaurant is also wonderful, but as they are usually full, book well ahead. Definitely worth every penny!
Wine tasting in Yarra, what could be better? This large winery has a beautiful shop with lots of gourmet gifts. They have a cheese counter where you can purchase a tasting plate to go with your wine. Wendy was our wine server and she was awesome, knowledgeable and fun. Perhaps because it was a Wednesday and not too busy...we had lots of time to visit and talk about the wines. I really enjoyed many of the varieties they make. This is quite a large winery. They sell their wines all over Australia and also export to the USA.
first time to De Bortoli and we were blown away by the entrees and pasta menu. best gnocchi I've had for years, brilliant wine selection and the tasting plate was to die for..and yes.. it had olives... the overall experience reflected an eye for detail and excellent service - we'll be back
Overall, De Bortoli was the best winery to visit in the Yarra. Others have better wines but the number that you can sample at De Bortoli is staggering. The staff are great. The wine tasting counter is enormous, so you don't wait long or at all. There is also a covered BBQ area and a swing.
Amazing wines.... especially the dessert & fortied ones:)Although you do have to pay a $3 for only a very small tasting of cheese & biscuits.
One of the older wineries I was able to have a cheese and wine matching tasting if that makes sense. The staff are very helpful and knowledgable. Just do not miss this from your Yarra Valley itinerary.
Beautiful winery. We had a cheese platter while wine tasting. Staff were lovely providing extra crackers for our little boy. Some nice play equipment for the kids is in a wonderful picnic spot on the grounds with a breathtaking view.
great lunch great service views were terrific and we really enjoyed the turine, fish was very good also comes with high recommendations from us
Today was our first experience of the Yarra and I'm so glad it was at this storied winery. We visited mid-week so it was quiet and were served by a very pleasant hostess. We tried half a dozen wines with the highlight being the trio of Pinot Noirs (see photo). We also tried the cheeses of which the highlight was undoubtedly the Epoisses closely followed by the Le Dauphin (see photos).Certainly well set up and professionally run, and definitely worth a visit.
