Dothan is moving on up! If you are a local, you should be a regular at Folklore. If you are a vistor, you are in for a treat! Delicious microbrews and food from local restaurants await you, as well as a friendly Southern atmosphere that welcomes anyone (of legal age haha). As soon as I see the string of lights leading me in this brewery that is off the beaten path, I know it is going to be a good night.
It's a bit off the beaten path, but the beer is fantastic. Great place to hang out and enjoy a cold one, or two, or three!
My sweetheart & I came to Dothan to attend the Toadlick Festival (birthday gift to him). We love to find local breweries & drink well made craft beer, so Dave found the "off the beaten path" directions. Beer was great and this place was a real find. Jeff & Jeremy have a real vision for where they want to go with Folklore and are doing it the right way - debt free. This place is a gem in the woods so go there & enjoy the laid back Southern hospitality! We wish them well & will go there again anytime we are in the Dothan area.
Jeremy and Jeff are the main folks at folklore! Very knowledgable and friendly ! If you love beer and they have several on tap , this is the place for you ! They are only open on Friday and Saturday after 5pm cst. Some food available at certain times of the evening also some live music. It is very casual and you can sample all that they offer or you can purchase pints! It is a little out of the way , but really worth the trip to find this jewel in the rough! Don't be fooled when you are driving up the driveway to the brewery , THEY MAKE OUTSTANDING BEERS!
I've been there several times and the first visit I fell in love with this place! They let you taste a sample of all their brews so you can decide which one you want.Very friendly staff helps you decide what you like. They show you their process and give a little tour of the brewery and show how it's made. You never know what treats they will have...sometimes they boil peanuts, sometimes the mother shows up with home-baked goodies. They don't serve food, but you can bring in whatever you want from home, take-out, or get it delivered. They sometimes have a vendor with hot food for sale. There are games, places to hang out outside, and they even have a dog park so you can bring your pooch with you!If you are in Dothan and you like beer, this place is a MUST!
Okay, I am a home brewer and self proclaimed "Beer Nerd" and appointed resident expert on beers (from friends, not me). And this place is what it is all about. First off, finding this place will give you the credentials of having "Mas Cajones" because its location to the "Non-southerner" may be a bit off... 1)in the woods, 2)pit-bulls tied to trailer homes, 3)think someone is going to come out and fill your SUV full of bird-shot.. But alas, you would be missing a really down-to-earth and cliche "Cool" experience if you don't make this trek! The beers are very good! A grass-roots and experienced brewer named Jeremy runs the place and good beer plus down-home hospitality makes this a MUY MAS FINA WINNER! I'm not saying anything else other than "Grow a pair" and "Find this place" because you will be glad you did. I wish them VERY well!
The first time we were about to visit Folklore to meet up with friends, I think we both thought this place was located somewhere in downtown Dothan. A quick search for Mary Lou Lane proved that was NOT the case. In fact, it was so not in downtown that we even questioned if Google Maps was correct! Clicking on the option for a realistic satellite map did not help the case to dissuade us any. We saw a regular neighborhood that didn't at all seem where a business could be located, but on the map, we could not get Google to bring us any other place but here. So, we set out on our adventure to find this place called Folklore... and we definitely found it! In reality, it's not difficult to find at all.If you are familiar with the area, it's kind of in a neighborhood set a street or two back from "Cowboys" (and couldn't be any more different than Cowboys, by the way...)What you'll find at Folklore would read like folklore... VERY friendly staff, who actually take the time to sit down with you and have a genuine conversation, hand crafted on-premises beer and an atmosphere that lets you relax so much, you think you are at a good friend's casual backyard party. In the last month, we have visited Folklore twice and have had the exact same experience. Beer is awesome, and they have quite a selection. The owner is not only available to talk to, but he is actually there hustling around, working. The second time we were there, he gathered various groups of people together to give a brief 'tour.'This is a very casual place. While Folklore does take cash and debit/credit cards for payment, my advice to you is to also bring some cash. The most recent time we went, some food was available for purchase (cash only) by a local restaurant. We did not bring any cash, so we ended up having to have a Plan B / go offsite for dinner. I am unaware if they always have food available for purchase. You'd have to check. I'm leaning towards that not being the case, but call or visit their webpage ahead of time to confirm.I highly recommend you give this place a try, you will not be disappointed. Check their website for hours and double check the location. I repeat... it is not in downtown Dothan! It's worth the brief drive out of the usual stops in Dothan to drive to support a local business which has quite a fine product and even more awesome people behind it.Cheers!
Met a couple of friends here last week who had discovered this brewery months before. What an awesome find. Out in the country and a bit difficult to find but our GPS found it! Very friendly owners and staff who explain each brew to you and let you sample. Friendly regulars are also veryhelpful in helping you choose. Outside patio is comfortable and a Food truck provided some awesome spicy pork rolls along with other choices which our friends thought were equally as good.We will return. Only open on Fr and Sa evenings and sometimes have live music. The Wiregrasswheat was my favorite while my friend chose the Oktoberfest and liked it.
We came from France to try their beers. A wonderful experience. Great tasting. Samples are generously given as long as explainations about the beverages Try the coffee infused one ! To bad they can't sell bottles to take away (it's the local law). Don't let the location deter U from getting there. It's worth the trip.
wow, great beer and friendly people too. Speaking as someone who normally doesnt like beer, i really like Folklore's brews. The staff there treat you like old friends and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. They keep assorted board games to play. This is a place where you will see both young and old mingling in and out. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by, relax and have a great brew!
