This is a very nice walk along the river. It is enjoyed by everyone - bikers included. They are little places where you can walk off the trail and venture down to the river for a nice place to eat lunch and enjoy the Animas River. Very, very nice!!!!
The trail was closed due to the elk and deer enjoying their spring.Disappointed when we saw the sign but then just at the sign there were numerous mountain lion footprints some larger than my size 7 glove hand so headed back to the trailhead.Appeared to be a well maintained trail though. Plan on completing it during my next trip to Durango.
This is one of the best local trails! Great elevation gain and amazing views at the top. Easy access and adequate parking.
I've never been to the Animas Mountain Trail, but I bet it is very nice. If you ever do actually go there please let us know how it is.
Hikes for all levels, plenty of wildlife and beautiful scenery. Walked with our dog early morning and met several like minded dog walkers and hikers. Good views of Durango.
Right off the highway at the north end of town. Maintained well and not crowded. 30 minutes walking to an excellent view of the Animas valley and the entire metro area. 1500 foot climb to the top, with several choices of trails.
This place a little hard to find, but it was worth the trip. We had to call several time's to finally meet up with the guide but once we did we had a great time. We rode two hour's deep in the wood's and saw some beautiful lake's. Met some nice folk's from another state and alot of fun. The only complaint we had is they need to a little more organized as they were hard to meet up with.
Great views from the top of the mountain. You can look down on the city of Durango and see the Animas River winding its way through the valley. The effort level is moderate. Nice to take lunch and eat on top.
Great trail. Just keep bearing to the "right" at every possible location to complete the whole thing. Nice parking lot at the main trailhead. You can just go about 30 or 40 minutes oneway and get great views of the town.
Animas Mountain can be a 6 mile trek if you want it to be. You can make it shorter if you want as the trails are marked with maps. Getting to the top of Animas Mountain will give you a great view of the Animas Valley. Once you get to the west side you can see the LaPlata Mountain Range. Takes about 2 hours to do the entire 6 miles. Worth every minute!
