Pretty much in the centre of the city, stands Piazza Castello and adjacent to this building from the 1500's you'll find some of the city's most illustrious buildings and modern shops with some well-known brands, trendy eateries and amazing varieties of gelati. It's also nice to have something to eat sitting on a bench in the piazza and just watch the world go by - it costs nothing to do this. From this point, it's easy enough to walk to the Egyptian museum, Carignano theatre, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Reale and several other points of interest.
This piazza is truly in the center of town, you've got the church that holds the holy shroud to your left, the palace as well, the museum of (russian was the expo when we went) art, great shopping to the right and some other historical buildings all over. The piazza is huge with many benches and just a great view. For some reason we kept on doing circles one day and kept on falling on this place.... we weren't navigating ourselves very well.... well there was tons of music, artists doing their thing, hey I got to listen to MC Hammer and "break it down"... can't vote poorly when you get to do that in Italy...
As everything in Turin - this central piazza is practically empty at any time except weekends. There are not cafes and restaurants on it. Instead there are 3 great buildings/museums on the same square, each worth a visit. Plus, the best ice-cream/granita in town is right there (Vanilla).
A visit to Turin should start with a stroll around Piazza Castello. It is big and grand. This is where the Palazzo Reale is, and the Palazzo Madama. It is in the midst of it all being a short stroll to the Palatine Towers. It is also close to the shops in Piazza Carlo.
One of the best squares in Turin. Good place to see the Castello, take a photo and eat a piadine will you see the tourists.
the different shops around the piazza are interesting. The fashion and the gelateria, and the beautiful historic cafe are places to go.
The piazza is a very interesting landmark and starting point for exploring Torino and venturing around the city centre to see some of the historic buildings but also close proximity to eating and shopping places.
Very nice piazza with view on several beautiful palazzos, like the Palazzo Reale and the Palazzo Madama.
Definitely worth the visit as a starting point for a walking tour through central Turin. Also vist the Royal Palace from the inside. Really worthwhile.
