On a good day, this place is unbeatable. Breathtaking location, incredible vista across the entire Rhine valley and extraordinarily beautiful local scenery in the vinyards all around. Its an old medieval fortress composed of a group of stone buildings aloft a tiny mountain. the road climbs up to a collection of outhouses, including a chocolate-making centre and a deli store. Here one leaves the car and walks the last 150 metres to the 'keep' at the top. There, there's a wine sales cellar, some very well equipped toilets, and restaurant terraces at two levels. The cateriung is on the very upper level and the system is that one enters, orders, gives the number of one's outside table, pays, and then retires out until the food arrives. The Flammkuchen together with their delicious house Reisling is the best combination. In fact, you'll probably go in for second orders, maybe a sweet Flammkuche with apple and cinnamon! You will NOT regret going to this place!
On a sunny day, you can't beat this location for a nice glass of wine on your way through the Black Forest. This Castle has recently been refurbished. It sits above Durbach in the middle of vineyards with a fantastic view. The wine is some of the best the region has to offer. In the distance is Strasbourg France.
Beautifully located, it allows you a "round" view on the entire region on a clear day. The wines are good and the terrace for light lunches is great to sit at in the summer. A must see in the region.
The terrace provides the most magnificent views. The food is good and the wine excellent. It's not a gourmet restaurant, rather a destination for hikers, who want to relax and eat a great meal. One has to go inside to order and pay for the food and drinks. Service is a little lacking, but the amazing views and the scrumptious, if basic, food make up for it.
Stepping into this magnificent castle is like going back in time. It's simply breathtaking!!!From the greeting we received on entering the castle to the quality of service and food it cannot be faulted. Simply outstanding...............I will treasure my memories of my visit to Schloss Staufenberg forever!!!!!!
Selbstbedienung
The climb up the mountain was about 25 minutes. A gorgeous hike! they say you can see all the way to France on a clear day. The Riesling was superb and reasonably priced in the store but very spendy in the cafe.
