Very good match, beautifull stadium. Ambiance is good, fans are incredable. The overview of the field is good, even when you sip up very high. Beer prices are good. Food is also good. Everything you expect from a high class German football match. Wonderfull experience and a good thing that Fortuna won.
Very easy to find, trains go directly there. I attended a concert and the roof was closed and even though smoking was prohibited, people smoked all around me which made me a bit nauseous. But it was a hot summer day and once inside the stadium they sold ice cream to the people who had to stand for almost 3 hours at the front of the stage...Food and drink could be bought inside the stadium as well. They should do something about people smoking inside though, escpecially when the roof is closed, if you are a non smoker it can make you sick easily.
It's a decent place to watch a game, but pretty sterile (the Fortuna fans are pretty good, though). Concessions are quite limited but fine. Good sight lines--we were near the top of the lower bowl, and could see quite well. Easy access with tram, but we parked and had no trouble there, either. Fairly easy in and out with good traffic control. But nothing special as a stadium.
In Germany they just seem to do the match day experience better than anyone else and the Esprit Arena is no different! Attended the Fortuna vs Stuttgart game, the arena is huge and incredibly modern holding approx 55k. It was essentially full for this game and the atmos was fantastic... This can sometimes get lost in European stadiums when compared to British ones due to the pitch being quite far away from the stands, but this doesn't seem to happen here - it maybe because the stadium is quite square and inclosed it seems to hold in the noise.Like all Bundesliga games the facilities are great, with proper pints (or 500ml as in Europe) of the delicious Dusseldorf Alt beer and proper bratwurst that you can take to your seat rather than a warm bottle of disgusting Carlsberg and hotdog that's been lying in boiled water for £10... The only minor note is getting to/from the ground, it takes longer than it should on the tram and it gets incredibly busy - also on the way back there is a constant flow of trams but there was a big crush to get on. If you are taking young children to the game I would suggest hanging back and letting the crowd die down a bit.
Very modern 55'000 seater stadium with great views all around the stadium. I was very impressed with the amount of space each seat has and there was no queuing anywhere due to that famous German efficiency. I was in charge of a school trip and sat in the family area but the atmosphere was still really good. Luckily we watched a really good 4 goal thriller but if football is not your thing it's got the worlds biggest "where's Wally" you've ever seen! Visitors and Fortuna fans will understand...
We visited the Espit Arena to see Take That, well what a well organised event! To get to the arena was very easy by the underground, to get into the event was simple and service to get a beer or two was easy! The event went without a hitch, and again like I have realised in Germany the customer service is excellent. The journey home was slick and again well organised with free travel on the underground and lots of additional trains put on, we were out of the arena and back to the hotel in under 45 mins! Well done :-))
