First: The canyon is beautiful and the fishing great! It can be fished from the shore, or with rented pontoon rafts (available through Trout Creek, along with various shuttles, etc.) but the knowledge, and rowing skills of a guide, certainly improve your experience!Have fished the "A" section for several years, usually with Trout Creek Flies. Never disappointed with their service, but our catch has never been record setting - but we're beginners, and fishing is fishing! During the nice weather months, we'll camp at nearby Dripping Springs Campground, but in their off-season, we do their lower price "Best of the Day" packages, which runs from 10:00am through 4:00pm, and can include one night stay in one of their four cabin rooms next to the shop. These are probably the BEST accomodations in the area! These rooms don't seem to be listed or advertised anywhere, and probably can only be obtained in conjuction with a fishing/rafting reservation. Give them a phone call! There are rumours of more being build, but we'll see! Try to reserve one of these rooms WELL in advance, during the busy periods. There aren't many, if any, choices for cooked food in the area, but our breakfast this trip was good and sizable! T.C.F.'s staff were efficient and friendly!Yes, today was cold, when in the shade of the canyon, but was in the 50's when in the sun, and the fishing (nymphing) started fast, then QUIT after an hour, but, with our guide, Bray, it was still great afternoon! Can't wait now until next spring!
Tried to use website, no info on services, no phone #. When i emailed my questions the reply was call the shop. HOW ? When i did go to the shop service was not good. People sitting around and acting offended that they had to help me. Not an enjoyable experience. I notice Jeff has posted several positives remarks, I'm sure as a owner you had a great time, try being a customer.
A friend and I stopped by during a mid-winter fishing trip to the Green River and got excellent advice on what the fish were doing. We caught a good number of rainbows and browns and got some new gear at the shop since we could try it out wight there. The owner is very friendly and helpful and I empathize with his plight of having to work 7 days a week while being just a few hundred yards from some of the best fishing in the world.
My son and I booked a trip based on their recent reviews and We had a great time. We knew going in that the fishing was slow but our guide Tom Knight wouldn't give up. He threw everything he had until early afternoon he found something that worked. My son and I caught 10 fish between the two of us which was far better than any of the other boats that day. My son and I were both novices and Tom was extremely helpful and had some great stories to tell and he knew a lot of history of the river. I could tell Tom was feeling some pressure when we had gone a few hours and I still had not caught anything. It wasn't his fault just bad timing. I told him the trip would still be worth it even if I didn't catch anything, although a couple of browns and a 20" rainbow sure was a nice bonus! Thanks for all your hard work Tom.
This was our first visit to the Green River and we could not have had a better time. The owner and staff of Trout Creek Flies went the extra mile to ensure my son and I had an amazing time and an unforgettable fishing experience. We used Gordon Tharrett (owner) and Nick (I don't recall his last name unfortunately) as our guides on three float trips on the Green and each float was amazing. They are both great teachers, know the river intimately and put us into feeding fish with exactly the right fly. Even though my son and I fly fish a lot, we both felt our guides improved our techniques and knowledge immeasurably. Thanks to them, we had one of the best overall fishing trips we have ever experienced. The river scenery is unmatched and the fishing is unbelievable! We stayed four nights in the cabins at the shop and were very pleased with the accommodations. The room was comfortable, clean and well furnished. The cleaning staff did an excellent job in daily maintenance, even though they had to wade through our clutter of fishing and foul weather gear. The shop and restaurant staff were friendly, helpful and treated us like we had been clients for decades. We're going back at the first opportunity!
We had a fresh made breakfast here every day, and the service, food, and staff were great. There is not much to choose from in Dutch John, but this place had whatever we needed for our fishing trip.
My firend and I once again fished the Green River, east of Flaming Gorge, and had the time of our lives. Simply put, the guides and staff at Trout Creek Flies give 110% to ensure your fishing experience is awesome. They succeed. The owner, Gordon Tharrett, was our guide extraordinaire for two days and taught my buddy and me more about successful fly fishing techniques in two days than we had learned over our 25 years each of previous fishing experience. The other staff are friendly, helpful and dedicated to making your fishing trip memorable in every way. The Green River is an unbelievable fishery and not be missed. Whether a beginner or an experienced fisherman, Trout Creek Flies is the place to go. In addition, they offer comfortable, clean rooms that are adjacent to the fly shop at a very good value. WIFI and Direct TV are available. It's a great value and the fishing experience is unbelievable.
Gene from TCF was a great guide. The operation was very professional. I was impressed that he started by taking my wife to a lawn in town to show her some casting before we hit the river. He also showed me some new tricks. When he asked us if we would like to stop there he said "I'm in no hurry if your not." That is a really great feeling to know your day isn't going to be spent with someone going through the motions. I felt the whole time we were on the river that Gene was doing what he truly loved to do and didn't want to be anywhere else.I prefer dry fly fishing, but when I stopped at Flaming Gorge Resort the morning of our float I heard the guy in their shop saying the fish weren't hitting dries. Boy was he wrong. I fished Genes version of a Secada all day. We did add a dropper for a bit when we hit a lull and caught some fish. In fact I was skeptical when he said let's cut that dropper off, it's time. Gene knew exactly what was going on because that's when the fishing got really good!I caught more fish than cared to count. One was less than 15" and one was right at 20", the rest were in between. The water is crystal clear. Gene knew where the fish were, when a mend was needed, what fly to throw and where to throw them. I respected his advice all day and it worked. Truly I left thinking how can I get back here again soon. Simply a great day when your wrist is worn out from great fighting big trout and the company you are with is top notch.
My family and I floated the river yesterday with three guides from Trout Creek. They were all very knowledgeable, professional, and very fun to fish with. My guide was Nick (unfortunately I can 't remember his last name) and I highly recommend him! I will definitely be calling him next time I want to float the Green!
Trout Creek Flies has been around a long time - with experienced guides, incredible scenery, and some of the best fishing in the country, you just can't beat this place.
