Impressive structure, due to its sheer size and out of proportions when compared to the city of Esztergom. The building itself is restrained in decoration and art works, but the scale of it all leaves you with your jaw open. The location brings superb views over the Danube, and there is a small romatic park in the outskirts of the Basilica.I also recommed visiting the Basilica museum.
Whilst on a river cruise we were taken to see the Basilica by the 'Noddy Train'. It is a very impressive building and picturesque views of the Danube and surrounding areas. We had a short visit which was ample to take in all that it had to offer. The immediate area didnt have any other attractions.
We visited Esztergom Basilica on a day tour out of Budapest and were completely amazed by this huge building which stands on a promintory overlooking the Danube. The building has played a central role in Hungarian history and contains many relics and memorials to the nation's turbulent past. If you're interested in history this is a must-see place.
We traveled with Sweet Travels to the Basilica and monument. I would've like to visited the museum inside by my wife didn't want to. The Basilica is quite impressive and I would encourage you to visit the crypt as well.
The imposing Esztergom Basilica dominates the local skyline. Inside is a large dome, interesting treasury and crypt. But the highlight is the view from the cupola (about 400 stairs to the top). Entry fee is charged per exhibit so buy the combination ticket fro better value. On Saturday, there is a constant stream of weddings with brides, grooms and guests in their finery. Pay and display parking is available on site.
The biggest basilica/church in Hungary with 100 m tall cupola. There is an area with castle, basilica, statue of the first Hungarian king crown ceremony, national treasury which is possible to visit for only 5-6 eur per person. From cupola there is a magnificient view of surrounding area.
easy to find the free parking place good to be lift there for the older people and the Basilica is very nice out and inside. You can see the Duna river from the park
Biggest church in Hungary and one of the biggest in the whole world, it is basically the center of the religious life in Hungary, and Hungarian are quite a religious people, being it an important part of their identity.so, one may understand the importance of this Holy site. Being Italian I found the interior nothing special, we can say it counts more on quantity than on quality :) but the atmosphere is intimidating....we were there during a marriage and believe me, it was wonderful! Also, worth seeing when you are there the treasure. I would definitely recommend a short trip if you are staying in Budapest.
Very nice basilica, monumental. Fyi entrance is free of charge, you have to pay for additional place only (crypt, treasury, cupola).Don't forget to visit restaurant & wine museum & shop in the cellar of basilica hill.
First time we saw Bazilica from the bridge via Dunai which connected two cities and two countries, Esztergom in Hungary and Sturovo in Slovakia. Basilica was located on the hill of historical city Esztergom and from the bridge we probably saw the most fascinating view on Dunai and Basilica. Next day I visited Basilica and that impressed me even more. Basilica had really huge size and it was difficult to imagine how it was build. Beautiful and significant. I visited crypt, treasury, panorama and cupola. All was very impressive. Strongly recommended to visit.P.s. If you are coming from Budapest to Esztergom, it makes sence to do it by boat.
