Sometimes when you are not looking for something you can have the most memorable experience. This cathedral dominates the cobbled square in the centre of the oldest residential quartier of Versailles, the Saint Louis area, which comprises original 16 century buildings many of which are being restored. On the day we stumbled on this area walking back to our hotel in Rue d'Anjou, the organist was practicing in the cathedral. Our friends, who live in Versailles, later told us that the cathedral is often used for concerts....music always changes the experience of being in a church and for us it was a magical experience. It is like many old cathedrals, dark, cold and empty but it is easy to let your mind wander and think of it as it once was. To imagine the enormous doors thrown open, the cathedral filled with nobility waiting the arrival of the king. It is the building structure and form that dominates the area that is most impressive. If you are passing by just wander in and perhaps like us you will experience music that transforms a building.
Beautiful old building, lovely stained glass windows. The churchis currently being updated, as its very run down. the high glass windows are lovely, however the lower windows are plain or have clear glass.Nice church to sit in and reflect on the day.
Not very fancy like Notre Dame or Saint Chapelle, but very beautiful. Small and quiet beautifully proportioned.
Une cathédrale qui vaut le détour avec une magnifique collection de vitraux et la présence exceptionnelle dans ce type de lieu de nombreux lustres en cristal exceptionnelle
We went to mass on Xams Day and enjoyed the hymns and the service as well as the historical association
This is a very quiet & one of the oldest parts of Versailles,, the cathedral is very grand & set in a beautiful square. The first time I was there it was a warm sunny afternoon & there is a small bar in the rue de cathedrale leading up to the square & front door,,, 2 guys hammering out billie halliday classics on classical guitar,,, summertime indeed ,,, chilling out perfection,,, one of lifes magical moments.
From the outside it did not look that impressive we were not sure if it was open !!In side music was playing and they were filming, we believe, a religious festival for the local TV Station. In side a very impressive Cathederale with a long hostory going back to Louis XIV, maybe not as decorative as some cathederales we have visited but it was worth a visit if only to find your wayin through the double door entrance!!
Well worth visiting. Go to the Potage on your way if you would like to be educated in the ways of fruit production(hardly anyone goes there). Cost €4.50/each. You will have the place to yourself. Best time when the fruit trees are in flower(spring).
Simple et calme. Un bel endroit qui mérite qu'on se déplace jusqu'au quartier Saint Louis.Au alentours des rues piétonnes avec des commerçants et restaurant comme on ne voit plus.. Une ville dans LA ville
Very impressive cathedral. Superb stain glass windows. The stations of the cross are represented throughout the cathedral
