By going on a 'behind the scenes' tour you really got to hear the stories,.... the building came alive. You got to explore, in a small grouo, the secret passageways, hidden doors and see amazing lavish artwork throughout the building complex - truly amazing.
This is one great way to feel/understand the Medici's vibes. The iconography encompass Christian and Pagan myths. Renaissance.
We did the 3pm Life at Court tour at the Palazzo Vecchio. This family tour is especially aimed at kids to show them what life was like for princes and princesses in an opulent palace a few centuries ago. It was engaging, interactive and playful. The kids were simply bowled over. The guide had the kids sit down in the middle of a resplendent room with tapestries and a gilded ceiling. He told them the gold covering the ceilings had come from the Americas. And then showed them a little piece of gold foil. He told them about about the inventive parties that the Medici family would host to impress guests from all over the world. How once Duke Cosimo had transformed the interior of his banquet room into a garden. He pointed out that there were no attached bathrooms for the princesses in those days. And showed the kids a small chamberpot, which elicited giggles all around. In the map room, the kids were surprised with a door to secret passage. We were all allowed to go inside. The kids had a chance in costumes from that period. The tour was really well-designed for kids, making history come alive. I wish there had been tours like this at other historical places we visited in Italy.
Next to the Ufizzi. Worth a visit to see the rooms and the fresco's, and the Cinqacento hall. Original Michelangelo statues there, and huge wall paintings depicting the wars against Siena.
very busy there but some stunning statues and architecture. Expensive though to have a drink in square, better off nipping up a side street!
Must see if you are an Italian history buff. Get a tour to help you appreciate it. Right next to the Uffizi Gallery also a must to see.
I had been here twice previously and wasn't going to bother again, but I was glad I did. You forget how extravagant specially Nd amazing this place is.
Would highly recommend this amazing museum, it has so much history, paintings on the wall, ceilings everywhere you look. You end up with neck ache from looking everywhere. you can go up to the towers and battlements but you need to buy the tickets early as they sell out quickly. opened till late.
