It is a great view from the top, but we went a few days after the rain and it was still boggy and slippery. If we went a few days later it would have been great.
Some will find this a challenging walk....its only short (15mins) though steep. Seats are placed along the way for comfort of those who choose to rest. The walk has been designed with steps all the way (thank you to the volunteers who must have worked so hard) The tower is 3 stories high, further climbing. On a clear day the vista is beautiful. Take binoculars in the whale migration season (July-October). Only problem...the trees are blocking the view in a big way! Shame, I have no solution to that conundrum???? Still enjoyable, take H2O.
While enroute to Port MacQuarie, we decided to take the "scenic route" through Forster. As there hadn't been much in terms of scenery, we decided to check out the Cape Hawke lookout. The walk to the lookout is just over 400m on a well maintained trail of stairs. The views at the top would justify the climb. That said, in January, the Mosquitos were terrible. In less than 25 minutes, I had over 20 bites and needed to find a pharmacy to survive the rest of our drive in reasonable comfort. If you do give this lookout a go, consider insect repellent, it will make it much more enjoyable.
Cost nothing, the weather was fantastic, the company was great and the view was sensational what more can you say.
Almost a 360º view - blocked by some trees to the South, but clear views up to Forster and beyond. Well worth a visit.
Well worth the effort going up the track to the lookout itself, the view can be amazing, just pick a clear day to do it and not a fill in on a cloudy hazy day.
what an awesome spot with incredible viewsoffers 360 degree views of lakes and oceana must for visitorsexcellent during whale season
It is well worth the steep climb to get 360 degree review of the surrounding landscape. Take some water off you go.
What a fabulous spot! That water is to die for...the colour amazing. Fresh air is fantastic after the smokey city!
Just a short 450 m walk up a path then a tower to climb for 360 degree views of Forster and Great Lakes and down the southern coast. Fabulous. Would be great for a sunset too.
