We returned after 14 years to this little winery. Wow! What the owners Robyn and Steve have done to the place in that time is amazing. The new name 'Great Lakes Paddocks' suits the winery with beautiful open spaces to visit. The most beautiful venue for a romantic wedding. Plenty of parking. The amazing grassed area has a great covered stage. Robyn explained that they are opening the place up to local bands and artist's and having family days. They offer picnic baskets and local cheeses and meat straight off their farm. We will be back for one of their events in the near future for sure. We did buy some wine and my husband's favourite is the Water Lily Semillon dessert wine.
We had a group of 11 visit on a Saturday for lunch, winetasting and a few local microbrew beers. The setting is lovely, the wines were very drinkable and Steve gave us a great rundown of the area and of producing wine. Our lunch was sensational - Angus beef straight from their farm, fresh ingredients cooked simply and to perfection. Steve and Robin made us feel very welcome and we will definitely be back in the future!
The wine was good. The tasting was done nicely. The cheeses offered were excellent and the conversation with the staff was fantastic.
Great Lakes Winery has superb wines and a fabulous location to enjoy them too. They host wonderful events and the Music in the Back Paddock is not to be missed.
Hi Barbara,Sorry to hear you only got one sausage and one piece of bread and you find our wine too expensive at $18.00 a bottle. Im interested to find out when that was and which group you were with because this is highly unusual. Plus it would have been helpful to us as a small business if you had made your dissatisfaction known at the time. Both myself and partner would have been present and have welcomed your feedback. We host many functions, weddings, christmas parties and bus tour groups and receive wonderful feedback which is what we strive for. One sausage and one piece of bread isnt on our menu so can you help clarify when you had such an awful experience? Thanks Robyn
Hubby and I visited and tried most wines. Of course we bought some. Best of all I found a light red that I enjoyed. Very exciting. Loved the chat about South Aust. My birth place. We had a lovely afternoon. Cheese was nice too.
Whether you want a romantic day out for two or take the family, or a big group outing. Food is lovely and the owners very hospitable. We`ve been there as part of a staff christmas party of approx 60 people and it was really well co-ordinated. Great day out for all.
I went out to Great Lakes Winery for a Christmas party in 2011 and had a lovely afternoon. We had a lovely wine tasting and ate their Angus beef. It was just delicious!!! The surroundings of the winery are just lovely and perfect for a private function. The couple that run Great Lakes Winery are just lovely!
We stumbled across this little winery, nestled in the Forster hinterland, in a brochure at the caravan park. It is approximately a 20 minute drive south of Forster. It is much more than just a winery offering not only wine but grass fed Angus beef, local produce and facilities for weddings and music days. The cellar door offered a good range of wines. The owners were friendly and passionate. The setting was idyllic surrounded by beautiful trees and grassed areas. I could imagine that it is the perfect place for a wedding or music concert. The winery has a very informative website. We will definitely be back for some more wine and a concert.
Pleasant country drive to this winery.Wines sampled were average, with no standouts for me. The whites were quite young, and the reds lacked the depth of similar Hunter wines.
