A group of nine of us enjoyed the unique experience of blowing our own Christmas ornaments. Each of us got to custom select the colors used in the firing process. The friendly and attentive staff kept us safe and made sure that we didn't burn the place down. Orbix Hot Glass is located near Little River Canyon, "the Grand Canyon of the South," just south of Fort Payne, AL. In addition to providing glass blowing classes, they have a wonderful showroom filled with beautiful, one of a kind, pieces of glass art.
Out of the way location, but a great country drive. If you any interest in art dont miss this. Workers, artisans, and staff were very helpful.
Visiting this place is such a treat. To see the beautiful pieces that Kal makes is amazing. Definitely worth the drive...and what a tranquil setting to work in.
fun for all the family..a little out of the way..but well worth the ride and who doesn't love Lookout Mt. been wanting to go ever since they have been there..done it now and will do it again..thanks Cal Breed and Orbix..
It's been quiet some time, but I have to say during the cool months it is a perfect place to visit. Cal is amazing in the work he does and if you schedule a visit when they have a workshop you can blow your own glass. Some if Cal's work is sold in cities like New York etc. There is also a shop in Fort Payne "Kathrine's" that sells the glasswork.
We went to Orbix Hot Glass on our anniversary trip to Fort Payne.. and it was awesome.. its a little out of the way, but well worth the trip.. loved it...
Located atop Lookout Mountain in Cherokee County. Orbix Hot Glass was an AWESOME experience. I took 9 family members up on a Saturday afternoon to blow our own Christmas ornaments. It was a wonderful family holiday outing. We were all amazed watching Cal work and thrilled to participate in making our own beautiful Christmas Ornament.
My husband and I visited this week and had a great time even driving to the Orbix location. Then when we arrived Cal and the other guys were in the process of blowing a water bowl. We were able to stand outside with them and watch them as they work. Such a cool experience! They have a great little gallery inside too and we couldn't leave without a couple small pieces from our visit. Very cool! They even to blow your own ornaments!
My friends and I went to Orbix Hot Glass to celebrate my birthday. Cal, Eric and Jerry were fantastic. Very patient as we made our ornaments and asked questions. Helpful and just down right friendly. If you love glass work, don't miss this studio. Well worth the drive....just use their directions!
If you get a chance to drive to Orbix Hot Glass from Route 273, up the hill to the facility, you will understand why it is located at a special place. The trip up the hill from route 273, near Canyon Mouth Park, to Orbix is not only breathtaking, but adventurous and fun. From the low country to atop Lookout Mountain, it is a wonderful drive. And, the prize is arriving at the bucolic site of Orbix Hot Glass! The shop is not the largest, but it certainly has some of the finest glass blown items around! The small, but wonderful showroom is the perfect size to display some of the finest hand-blown glass products in several states; and at the perfect location! You will not be disappointed! On glass blowing days you may also be invited to see the artisans in action, which is always a treat. We take our guests there whenever they come to visit us in NE Alabama, and they cannot believe the beauty and charm of our part of Alabama!
