Was closed for tours when I visited, but that didn't stop me from visiting the gift shop. Nice selection.
This place is legit! Out of 3000 current US breweries, Flying Dog rates #33 based on volume. Tours are $5 a piece and amazing! You do samples on the tour, along with 5 beer tickets on your wristband at the end. This place brews some of my favorite beers ever! I wish we had more in Iowa. Thanks to Flying Dog, well done. Cheers!!
Great place but if you want to do the tour get there really early. $5 for the tour but totally worth it. The staff is very nice and helpful. Very cool place and cannot wait to go back. And of course the beer is good too
Evidently the brewery tours here sell out fast. Book far in advance if you can. The tour is like most you'll find elsewhere. Starts with a short history of the company then moves on to a tour of the facility and how beer is brewed. A nice touch was being able to sample the beer at different stages of production. The charismatic tour guide will also emphasize the motto of the brewery: good beer, no [kidding - I'm censoring myself to keep within the TripAdvisor guidelines]. Bad language is used, however everyone touring should be over 21 and should have heard bad words before. Not to mention quite a lot of the product line uses the same bad words. Following the tour is a tasting session in the retail area. You get 5 tastes with the tour and glass. Each is approximately 6 ounces (or half a beer). Most of their line is quite hoppy, however if you don't like hops, stick to the stouts. I also recommend the In Heat Wheat for people afraid of "strong beers". They serve all of their regular product line, as well as season offerings, and beers only available at the brewery. If you purchase a growler you can also take their beer home with you. They don't serve food during regular tours, therefore if you need to soak up the alcohol after the tour head down the street to Frisco's for sandwiches, soups, and spuds. It's definitely worth the visit if you like their beers and want to try others in their product line. If you hate their beer and have no interest in how it's brewed, this is not the tour for you.
To visit the popular brewery, you need to sign up on their website for a tour weeks in advance, and they are usually full... but don't let that discourage you. If you check back on the date you're interested in (or the day before) some times there are last minute cancellations. For $5 you are given a wristband with 5 tabs and a souvenir glass. The informative tour takes about an hour and the guide walks you through various parts of this small, very clean brewery. At the end of the tour you can sample 5 beers. Try some of their limited release or seasonal brews. When we were there they had a delicious summer ale called "Dead Rise" that was flavored with Old Bay.... You can't get more Maryland than that!
This tour was awesome! Some friends and I recently spent the weekend visiting a number of breweries and wineries. ...This was by far our favorite! The tour was sold out ahead of time but we took a chance anyway and stopped to see if we could tag along. They added our group of 4 without hesitation. The tour itself was unique and fun, our tour guide, Amy knocked it out of the park. The tasting was amazing...five generous samples of our choice and a souvenir glass. We filled up a few growers the beer was so outstanding! We all wish that we lived closer to do this more often!
Seen one brewery tour? You’ve seen them all. But Flying Dog offers special events, such as “Brewhouse Rarities Release Parties,” held the second Tuesday of the month. $5 for 5 tastes and a souvenir glass. Check the website for information. Set in a business park, hops grow up the side of the building. The there’s a patio off the tasting room, and a gift shop with all the standard merch. No food sales, but AKA Friscos (outstanding sandwiches and salads) is just a few hundred yards past the brewery.
Interesting and informative tour. Friendly staff. They have lots of good beers. I liked the creative labels and names of the beers.
You used to have to reserve weekend tours online 90 days in advance since they filled up so quickly. However, their new policy is a first come first served one that allows you to show up around noon and pretty much be guaranteed a tour at some point throughout the afternoon. You can even leave the premises after booking your tour and head elsewhere since they can't serve you for on site consumption. This may be changing within the next few months if the regulations change.Tours are $5 and include a nice flying dog glass. The artwork in the main hallway is worth the price of admission. A few small samples are provided during the tour and then 5 free samples are available post tour, good sized pours around 4-5 oz. Nice variety of beer on tap, everyone should be able to find something they like.
We went to Flying Dog on a Friday evening to hopefully beat some of the weekend rush. Tours cost $5, are first come first served, and run every 30 minutes. We arrived just after 4pm for the 4:30pm tour and were one of the first on the list. Too bad they can't serve their beer while you wait!! The full tour itself takes a little less than an hour, and then you will need time at the end to enjoy your 5 samples included with the tour! The tour was fun, interactive, and informative. I have done several brewery tours already, so I basically knew the premise of brewing but it was still entertaining and our tour guide Brendan was really fun and upbeat. Just FYI the tour and brewery use adult language - their number one selling beer is "Raging (Female Dog)" and they have beers called Pearl Necklace, Horn Dog, etc. If that sort of thing bothers you, you probably shouldn't visit this brewery. After the tour we hung out in the tasting room for probably about an hour doing our five good size sample pours. There wasn't a single beer between my husband and I that we tried that wasn't good. We even filled a growler - which is a great deal. I would highly recommend this tour to fun, beer-loving people!
