My daughter and I eat lunch at Goolrick's all the time. I have the egg salad on toast and we both get REAL cherry Coke's made with Coke and syrup. It's cheap, usually pretty quick, and we like sitting at the old fashioned soda counter.
Very good food. All homemade chicken, egg, tuna salads and soups. Made to order, not premade. Best milkshakes in town with real ice cream and milk.
I visited this landmark this summer with my two teenage children. I wanted them to have a feel for a lunch counter atmosphere. We all had ice cream desserts sundaes. The sundaes were large in size and made to order. Staff was nice, friendly, and able to give the history of the Pharmacy which dates back to shortly after the Civil War.
Old school just like the pharmacy in my hometown. Had the chocolate milkshake and it was great. Just like my parents got when they were young. The table next to us had hot fudge sundaes and they looked so good. Must try that next time.
We had lunch here before starting our tour of historic Fredericksburg. It is an actual drugstore lunch counter, something that used to be common. We had a sandwich and a fountain drink, including a vanilla Coke made with fountain syrup. It was all delicious and no more expensive than some fast-food place out on the highway. Highly recommended.
If your tired of shopping, I stop in to an original true drug store and soda fountain and limited lunch items. Sodas and Milkshakesare great considering they use very pedestrian Hersheys Ice Cream but is still worth the trip if your in "Old Town" on Caroline St.
Goolrick's is perennial. Wonderful old soda fountain with simple sandwiches and milkshakes. This is where the locals eat. Tourists who are lucky enough to stumble in are pleased to find lunch so reasonably priced.
This place is one of the 'Must Go To' places in the 'Burg. It's in the middle of wonderful Caroline Street, great place for shops, people watching, and running into friends. The food at this landmark pharmacy is very good, but it's the experience of being there, and sitting at the lunch counter, that make it great. Do yourself a favor, don't miss it.
We had a light lunch at Goolricks and it was fine. Good food and service. Would definately try it again.
If you are over 50 & remember the US the way drugstores & soda bars used to be, you will love this place- it's straight out of the 1950's maybe even earlier & hasn't been renovated since then- it is a time capsule. My husband had a milkshake & it was superb- exactly what a milkshake used to be & was excellent. I had an egg cream & it was good but not excellent. OK I am from NY so I remember how good these are from when I was little & it's definitely good but not as good as I used to have in NY but still worth having. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the place as it's a blast from the past. However, if you are young, you probably won't appreciate the old fashioned atmosphere. We would definitely return.
