A nice little zoo. The most engaging exhibits for a small child were the gibbons (active and LOUD) and the alligators (impressive up close). Easy walking trails that will accommodate a stroller. You can see the whole zoo in a couple of hours. Most exhibits are open air, so go on a day that isn't rainy or overly hot since there aren't a lot of places to get out of the weather/heat.
We took our grand kids here on a beautiful Saturday morning. Many of the exhibits are 'manned' by local college students who are great to speak with. For a small local zoo, the exhibits and numbers of animals was fantastic.
I found this zoo to be educational and fun. The students were beyond helpful and answered all of my questions. All sorts of animals from all over the world, just as described. I did not get to see anybody but the students and the lady behind the counter but all were very nice and eager to help. I loved that. I do want to go back because I was not able to see some of the animals due to the rain on my poor planning. so the animals were in the back.
This is a sweet place. Lots of enthusiastic students that will be happy to tell you about the animals and the programs. The zoo ( and this is what it is) hosts a variety of exotic animals and birds that are of special interest to little ones. Hence the abundance of parents and children having a great day.
We have visited here often with our grandson and what a treat it is! We didn't expect to see this much wildlife on a small college campus. The apes are fun to watch and the peacocks love to strut their stuff. The zoo is set in a quiet area near the campus and is easy to get to. This is a great place to take tots (and adults too) when in Gainesville.
Enjoyed the ability to interact with the students. Had a lot of turtles and tortoises, almost lopsided in the amounts of types of them, compared to other animals. However, we really enjoyed them as well as the Kookaburra and the Gibbons singing. Loved that it is very shady and not a lot of walking between exhibits, although many of the animals still had room to roam.
We took our grandson (perfect for younger children as it is easily "walkable"), to this wonderful zoo.The "helpers" at the zoo are students and are eager and full of knowledge. Worth a visit.
An impressive place for children and adults. We had a student guide who provided excellent information on the animals (and they all have been given pet names 8^).
Very well kept and maintained. Very interesting selection of animals. It is not a large zoo, but enough for small children . Very helpful staff when you had a question. Great family outing.
when my kids where small I brought my children here all the time, the student guilds always made it entertaining, informative and exciting for small, all children and parents alike. Kids cant get lost cause its a small, cozy, inviting teaching zoo
