This tidy, well-kept trail is paved and spacious. It is perfect for a walk, run, bike or even roller blading. My friend, her small dog and I walked on this trail starting at the end in gardiner and walked about 2 miles in and then turned around. We never felt unsafe or worried. The trail was well populated. I will return.
We had so much fun on this relatively flat trail! We took our 2 boys and found berries to pick as well as some geocaching sites. We started in Augusta and rode to the end and back. It was a warm day so the shade from the trees was welcome. There were a lot of walkers/runners and a few other bikers. From young to old, this is a trail for all to enjoy.
This is a mostly paved rail trail from Augusta to Gardiner, about 13 miles round trip; great for walkers and bike riders who aren't looking for speed. Pleasant way to spend some time outside, get some exercise, and then spend a little money on any of the local eateries in Gardiner, Hallowell, or Augusta.
My husband an I ride bicycles, my husband more devoutly than me. We both enjoy riding on the Kennebec River Rail Trail. It is pretty well maintained by volunteers. Nice scenic ride.
Unlike Mark Twain's view of golf a trip on the Kennebec River Rail Trail, KRRT, is a good walk even better. Mostly following the old Maine Central Railroad Track from August to Gardiner, this is a pleasant walk through history. Both Hallowell and Augusta have extensive Museum in the Streets tours providing a look back to different times. Midway is Hallowell, featuring arguably the most vibrate arts and music scenes in Central Maine. Great restaurants, many live music venues, and Central Maine's older theater company are just a few of the treats of Maine's smallest "City."
The Rail Trail is a great use of tax dollars. People can walk, run, or bike on it for free. You can see eagles, deer, and a variety of natural wonders. You could even stop and have coffee or lunch a long the way.
The Kennebec River Rail Trail is a great ride for bikes or just plain walking. It offers views of the river and depending on the weather great water falls. When you are done you can enjoy some good restaurants in either Gardiner or Hallowell.
Good all year, but spectacular in the fall. Great walk for family from babies to grandparents. Rest spots along the way. Bike and skate friendly. Easy jogging trail.
It is great to ride from busy Gardiner through Farmingdale and Hallowell to Augusta with no cars. The trail ends on the river in Augusta. It is is excellent condition accept for a missing stretch through Hallowell where there are lots of shops and cafes.
Loved the views of the Kennebec river and the trail itself is paved and still in great shape. There are many interesting sites to be seen along the trail, old dilapidated building and so on...
