The Springer is a great place to go for some quality entertainment. The places are really put together with great care, and are very enjoyable to watch. It is also a great place for an intimate date.
A beautiful facility with top rate performances!! We have had season tickets for 10 years. We drive 70 miles to Columbus to attend five plays a year.
This is Georgia's State Theater. It is old and beautiful and full of history. If you are in Columbus in October check out the haunted tours. There are some very talented people in the area.
We have been to many shows at the Springer Opera House over the years and have never been disappointed. We always leave remarking that we never knew that Columbus had so many talented people! Besides the excellent shows, the theater itself is a treasure! It would be nice if the theater put an insert into the programs letting the audience know more about the theater's history and some of those intriguing facts that make it so special!
My wife & I attended "Della's Diner" in the McClure Theatre on Thursday evening 11/20. The musical performances by the six actors were pleasant, energetic, & amusing, although the storyline was cornball/sophomoric. The McClure is small with open seating, so I'd advise coming early if you want the best seating (although any seat is fine). The individual chairs are closely packed & somewhat uncomfortable, but not a major problem. The Springer is a tremendous asset for Columbus, & Ron Anderson will be sorely missed. He contributed a great deal to the community over a long period of time. THANK YOU!
There is no limit to the purely positive adjectives that I could apply to this, the State Theater of Georgia. It is a relic and a masterpiece for those of who have been there, performed there, and enjoyed the spirit of the dramatic arts there. For some of us, it was where we found ourselves--it was where we discovered friendship and a kinship that perhaps we hadn't known before. It's more than a bleary-eyed nostalgia that makes me say this: the Springer is a part of who I am. In many ways, it's where the adult me began.Parents: send your children to the Springer. The lessons and skills that they will learn at the Theater Academy are more than self-expression and confidence, though both will be received there in abundance. There is also a community--a sense of purpose--a striving toward patience, intelligence, and humor. These are all qualities that we can stand to see a little more of in this world. Mentors are there. People like the legendary Ron Anderson, who is as much a piece of the foundation of Columbus as any person in the world. I discovered movement at the Springer--I discovered Classical music. Parents: the Springer Theatre Academy is a fine place for your children. Thanks to Izzy for showing a sentimental old alumnus around, and making it clear that the place is still draped in everything that made it so gorgeous to me before. The warm, smiling homesickness I felt upon my return was turned into real, unfettered happiness upon seeing how the theatre machine continued all this time later--chugging along on its merry way. And with new facilities, staff, and programs like No Shame, it's clear that the Springer has every interest in evolving further--to continue to be the best place for performance in Georgia. Real, sincere thanks to everyone I met, and to my old friend Jef Holbrook (I knew you when you had two Fs in your name), for continuing to make this place sublime. What a beautiful old theater. It is my sincerest hope that one day I'll get to come back and perform there. In the meantime, I have some of the fondest memories of my life to keep me warm.
We went there not knowing what to expect. We took the tour and it was the best hour and a half we spent in Columbus besides seeing family. I would take the tour again! I can't wait to go back and see a show. I loved the sweet young lady who gave us the tour. She was amazing in her knowledge. A must go!
Beautiful theater with wonderful history. We have seen many orchestra's, musicals and plays here. Every seat is offers a great view and the design of the Opera house makes for a reverberating sound that amplifies voices and makes instruments and song come alive! They always seem to have a great selection of events.Make a night of it and have dinner downtown on Broadway and enjoy your evening!
The Springer has so much to offer...great shows, tours, history, the list goes on. We go to a show at the theater at least two or three times a year. I highly recommend their productions. And, the theater offers you a wonderful glimpse into the past. It is one of the oldest theaters in the country. We love the Springer
We moved here 1 year ago and bought season tickets. Great value and a great season of plays! The building is historic and well maintained.
