A wonderful local place to see outstanding theater productions. About to break ground on their new theater designed by starchitect Jeanne Gang, which looks like it will be a jewel box.
Have been a series goer for many years. Selections are always interesting and thought provoking. Acting and staging great. Intimate theater. A gorgeous new facility is being erected currently in Glencoe. Jeannie Gang the architect. Drawings fabulous. Can't wait til completed
This is an intimate wonderful place to enjoy theater. Their selections never cease to amaze. The actors are top notch and the productions are well done. I just renewed my subscription and love that I don't have to drive downdown to enjoy a show. This is not mindless entertainment.
Writers Theater routinely goes above and beyond, with new plays, adaptations of the classics and talented Equity actors at a small North suburban venue. The intimacy of the space means that the cast cannot break character for a second and they don't. The performances are breathtaking, including some that have not been award nominated, although there are plenty of award candidates. Well worth a trek to this small village near the beautiful Botanic Garden and the lake shore with excellent restaurants. Make a day of it. You won't be sorry.
There is never a bad show at this theater. They are always high quality productions with excellent actors.
This is a truly unique experience - combination of story telling with imagery, shadows, and puppetry. Never had so much fun in a play
The Writer's Theater is my favourite theater in all of Chicago. The intimate stage coupled with impeccable stage design and management make for an often incredible and always magical experience.Tickets can be hard to come by so book early.Well worth the journey up North to see a unique production!
This tiny theatre manages to be as artistically excellent as anything the great Chicago theatre scene has to offer, as intimate and welcoming and quaint as a famous writer's home transformed into a miniature museum, and as well run as a nonprofit performing arts organization with ten times the staff. I saw the superb production of Hedda Gabler and couldn't believe what they were able to accomplish in the way of scenic and lighting design in the 100-seat space, and I have no idea how they can afford to attract some of the best professional actors in the country--but they're doing it, and it's an extraordinary pleasure to "lean forward and engage" with this earnest and dynamic artistic work.
Great plays, phenomenal actors, innovative sets and an intimate theatre setting. Have been subscribers for years and have enjoyed almost every play we've seen.
