Thank you so much. We really appreciate that you took such trouble to give a great detailed review of your visit with us. Tripadvisor is such a good travelling tool as it gets past the normal advertising and give the traveller a real insight into what others have experienced both good and bad. You obviously had a deep appreciation for this history and our lovely country side. Thank you again Chris Rod Lee and Diane of Kate's Cottage G S M & H.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. It is very valuable for both tourists and ourselves. The museum and the "ramshackle hut" get great reviews. The talking cockatoos just love the attention. We have the largest range of Ned Kelly souvenirs covering all price ranges. In the past 18 months we have had the biggest overall price rises due to freight and power costs passed onto us as retailers. Many of our supplies put prices up on us just before Christmas. We try to buy in large quantities so as to buy cheaper and then sell cheaper. Our second hand book collection varies in price depending on what we had to pay. We have traded here for almost 30 years and have seen the biggest price rise ever for us in the last 18 months - 2 years. Cheers to you and thank you as this allows us to express what people have to juggle just to stay in business these days. Rod, Chris. Lee & Diane of Kate's Cottage Gifts, Souvenirs, Museum & Homestead.
That is LOVELY to hear. Even though it has been a very hot holiday season we have had heaps of people through and some great conversations on the whys and wherefores of Ned Kelly history. Re price we don't put up prices for the holiday season...we stay the same all year round which makes it affordable especially for families. We have been here 29 years and have had record numbers through the museum display... despite the heat. Thank you again for taking the time to review us as it is very valuable feedback. Thank you for taking the time to review us. In this lovely spring weather we have had a steady stream of visitors wheeling the 1/2 km off the freeway to visit this great little historic town.As a second chance reply to 14th Aug review. Following our noses we were eventually lead to finally find the source of the smell and unfortunately it was poor Mr Possum. He would alternate homes between the blacksmith shed and the homestead but before that his preferred residence was the boiler and spout of the old steam engine which used to be there on Kate's Street near the railway line. Thank you so much for such an informative review. We appreciate that you have taken the time as this is very important for us to see how we are viewed and very valuable for the traveller . . Reviews like this allow them to make an informed decision on were and what to visit. l Thank you again. Chris, Rod Lee & Diane of Kate's Cottage Gifts, Souvenirs, Museum & Homestead.
Unfortunately being in the country we have to contend with mice coming in from the cold every winter. Some seasons they are worse that others. We are onto them all of the time but if they die in the wall caverty we are in big trouble until the smell disappears. Mrs Kelly would have had to put up with this and more. Rarely have we had a snake but we have had a few harmless Blue tongue lizards and skinks, possums..and quite a few spiders move in. From photos of the last home Mrs Kelly shared with her son Jim up until her death it was very ramshackled. So taken from words of early songs about the Kellys and family stories, their homes were generally described as very "ramshackled" . Life was very tough for them withnot much time for "niceties".. We would however, love to re roof the homestead at this point with more bark but it is almost impossible to get Stringy bark now as it is rare and protected (rightly so). Thank you for taking the time to review us. Cheers to you Chris, Rod, Lee & Diane. of Kate's Cottage GSM & H
We LOVE to hear people say " we'll be back" Thank you for taking the time to review us and give such a detailed one at that. Trip advisor is such a valuable tool for travellers. I hope that I am at the shop when you come back through but if not Rod, Lee or Diane will certainly look after you. Thank you again Chris of KATE'S COTTAGE G.S.M. & H.
Thank you for taking the time to give us your review. We really appreciate this as it helps us as well as your fellow travellers. We have had many kids locked in that goal with parents threatening to leave them there. They would definitely be only getting " bread and water" from us if that was to happen. We are glad that the cockies were at least polite except for their sometimes very noisy squawks. They have on occasions been heard to say a few unmentionables to the glee of the younger set who probably taught them in the very first place. The cockatoos are amazing imitators. Thank you again. Cheers to you Chris
Thank you and yes he is a lovely man..we have been married for 43 years. Very pleased that you enjoyed your visit. The cockies really know who to put on an act. When I do a talk to school groups they ( the cockies) can hardly contain themselves...they just LOVE the action. Hope that you really enjoyed the rest of your visit here and that we put on our best weather for you. Cheers to you Chris for Chris & Rod Gerrett Lee and Diane of Kate's Cottage GSM & H.
We went here on our way to Melbourne. We all enjoyed it and didn't mind paying a minimal cost for family to have a look. Very interesting for the kids and the gift shop has a lot of stuff. We bought a newspaper type book of Ned kelly for around $7 - great for school projects.
