Had a great time visiting Grafton & hanging at the Piasa whinery with there very friendly staff. Will be coming back soon.
By any standards of this quaint village of Grafton, Illinois the Piasa Pub and Winery fits in as well as the river does. We've been to the Piasa Winery over 13 years watching it change hands and grow. Yesterday (8/2/14) we had lunch there and ordered the standard cheeseburger with chips. When the waitress took our order she asked if we'd like to "add" lettuce, tomato and onion with it - of course, we did. Not knowing that each piece of lettuce, tomato and onion would cost 50 cents. So for 1 wilted piece of lettuce it was 50 cents, 1 slice (transparent) tomato 50 cents, onion slice 50 cents. That was a $1.50 additional for the burger. So our advice when ordering at the Piasa Winery is to have the server tell you exactly what the price will be. Burgers: $6.50 - Lettuce tomato onion addtl $1.50 - experience: a learning one.
Amazing outdoor seating small menu but delicious food. Lots of good wine and beer choices. Has live music and 3 floors of outdoor seating
Great atmosphere and good selection of wine. Definately stop in when in Grafton. if you go on the weekends they often have a band.
This is NOT the restaurant on top of the hill. This one is on Main Street, river side. It's also NOT an attraction. It's a bar and restaurant. It's a very nice place to visit with great drinks (many specialties) and a large selection of draft beers. The food is pub-type with a killer burger. There are quite a few "local" wines with free tastings. The wines are very pricy which is on par with the area. For instance, some wines I buy at the grocery store for $8 were $20 here. The place consists of several rooms/areas. There's the original bar area and an enclosed deck. Then there's the open deck on the street level (good view of the river, excellent view of the giant marina they build right in front). Downstairs, there's a covered and uncovered deck. That's where the music usually is.
What a great place to stop and eat and do tastings. You can do either wine or beer tastings. Everything was so good
Waitress//Bar Maid had more important things (to her) on her mind than serving her patrons. Generally the service is OK, and I mean just OK, but the last few visits have gotten worse and worse. Having to walk from ones table time after time to order (anything) wasn't too bad but to wait for her to quit gossiping and get a word in edge wise. Customers are taken for granted regardless as to how much they tip the waitress. (we usually leave 20-30% & no mess)
located with a river view we had a river view from our table and sampled local wines and enjoyed an excellent dinner
We thoroughly enjoy this place when there is a great band. Outlaw Opry is a good country fun band to listen to. Many wines to choose from. We didn't eat there, but others did and said the food was reasonably priced and good for the area. Bars and wineries tend to be a little high priced for what you get in Grafton. The winery made it a really fun night. Outlaw Opry Bingo with prizes, and Shooting the apple off the head of the singer with toy bow and arrows added to the fun. Not to mention the people watching. Would highly recommend this when there is a band playing.
The pub is one of my favorite spots in Grafton. Unique from the chalk board drawn signs to the painted ceiling and great wines. Although it is small inside there is a lower level, ouside deck and stage out back. Fridays open mic night always brings in a fun crew. Highly suggest Martys homade Mac & Cheese. In the summer it is fun to go on Wed nights they have free movies on the Mississippi out back. Always a good time.
