This was my second visit to this national park, the "guides" who mingle with visitors were friendly and responded to visitors questions, they were present but not in your face so itwas a great balance. My friend and I sat on the rocks, had our snacks and look out forwhales, we had a good day we saw 4 different types of whales.
Plenty of space for kids to experiment. You can go at low tide and observe the all the marine life in naturally form lagoon. We saw minke whales and few porpoise.
Check the schedules and go to the interactive programs - kids learn about and can handle sea creatures, right on the rocks at one of the best marine life lookout spots on this coast. Great for all ages. Beautiful hiking in either direction along the coast over striking rock formations and tidal pools. The educational staff were very engaging. Kids were riveted. Meanwhile, whales and seals are swimming by on a regular basis. Pack a picnic lunch.
What a beautiful, stretching area to watch whales and sea lions from (and ducks and loons and...). The tiny park or price is well worth the sights from this perfect location. And they dont lie. We saw a whale!!! We were there around 430 (word of advice, the park closes it's gates at 6 so if you're driving you have to be out of the parking lot by 6) and after about 30 minutes of relaxing, it happened. A whale (as well as a few baby whales) came swimming by!!! Like meters from us. Even if that didn't happen it would have been a beautiful day. Highly recommended.
Even though we didn't see a single whale, our experience at Cap-de-Bon-Desir far exceeded our pricey zodiac excursion earlier in the day. First, it's a spectacular setting and a great spot to enjoy the river. Also, the park naturalist was amazing and had tons of information and educational resources. She explained that whales follow the food and that you can often predict where they will be based on the currents. They had seen an impressive number and array of whales the day before and that morning (they record sighting information each day) but nothing that afternoon. It was such a beautiful, dramatic setting and I would definitely come here first rather than going out on a boat or zodiac.
Excellent spot for whale watching - from the shore! Sit on the rocks and see the whales even if you don't have binoculars - although its better if you do! There is also an observation deck with info boards and a guide who can point out the whales and identify them for you. Could have stayed here for hours.
