Run at 2pm and had about 18 people on it. Our tour guide was Alan and he was very knowledgeable and very funny. The tour takes about 45 mins and starts from the Sepplets wintry
Great winery and tour taking in the drives (underground tunnels use to store wine) is well worth it.
We had a wine tasting here and really enjoyed it judging by the four boxes of wine we left with. We had a really good girl who knew her wines exceptionally well, and she gave us different things to try. Definitely worth a visit if your doing the wineries of this area.
I went to this winery purely for the underground tour it has 3 km of underground tunnels called drives. We were met by the wine makers wife which I never thought would happen as it is a large corporate winery. The tour was great I hadn't planned on buying wine but I'm sitting writing this review sipping on the Pinot suggested by Mrs winemakers wife. All in all the tour was worth it as is the wine I'm sipping on.
We visited Seppelt Winery on Australia Day and were served by a smiling, but harassed young woman, who was the only staff member on duty. As a result, she found it very hard to keep up with tastings & purchases & couldn't even find business cards when another customer asked. She never lost her cool, apologised constantly, and offered us a good discount on the wine we purchased, although she added it up incorrectly at her first attempt. No-one was available to sell the platters or to talk about the wonderful old wines, sherries & ports that were celebrated in displays around the walls. We wouldn't hurry back to repeat this experience.
The tour and tour guide were great. Fantastic value for money. The wine tasting was good and complimented the tour, but it's hard to top walking around in large underground drives. We also had coffee after the tour, but the cheese and prune platters seemed a bit overpriced. It would have been good if they offered more food choices.
We dropped in to taste and revisit old memories from visiting many years ago. There is heaps of parking and a great outlook over the vineyards. The Winery shop is full of history and the staff were knowledgeable, helpful and charming. We didn't tour the drives on this occasion but found that to be a great experience on past visits.Tasting the wine range was an enjoyable experience. We joined the Seppelt's wine club to get a discount before buying. The one disappointment was finding the winery discount price for their top of the range champagne was beaten by another 20% in our home bottle shop 1 week later.
Had the pleasure of touring the Seppelt Winery with Allan as our guide. It was more than just a winery tour, it was a excellent and fascinating history lesson about the state of Victoria as well as the state of sparkling wine making in Australia. Fun, fascinating stories, amazing caves dug by the gold miners. A slice of Victoria State history about feuding brothers and great business timing. Ending in a wonderful tasting of beautiful & unique sparkling wines.
So glad we went. The tour was just fascinating. Alan (the tour guide) was great and so knowledgable. It was a really fun way to learn about wine. The red sparkling was delicious. We purchased a box! We were hungry but didn't want to miss the tour so the nice lady that works there gave us some apples to tie us over.
The tour takes an hour and costs $16. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. You go underground and walk through some of the 2.9 Kms of 'drives' and can follow the tour with tasting their well known sparkling wines.
