I only go their to pay my property taxes,It has been up dated ,but the tree in the tower is still their. Their use to be big old trees around the square, but the birds really made a mess on the walks,so they cut the trees down ,and planted smaller ones.
Married into a family from this area. Seems the locals really like their courthouse tree. It is certainly something you don't see everywhere, but don't expect a towering redwood or anything. The tree is pretty small -- but it is still a tree growing off of the top of a clock tower. Worth a detour off the Interstate if you are driving through and need to take a break.
It is so awesome to see a tree growing out of the top of a courthouse. It is defiantly something to see. We also enjoy eating at Storys restaurant which is right across the street, they have great home made food and pies, and the service is awesome. A must try when checking out the tree coming out of the courthouse.
It is suprises and interesting to see the old tree in the top the tower. It is beautiful. I didn't have much time to visit there. Therefore, I didn't ask to see if we could go up there. Only take some pictures and left.
There has been a tree growing on the roof of the clock tower for over one hundred years..Pretty cool
I have traveled to Greensburg many times for many years. I used to think it was cute and certainly a novelity. Now I just think they should cut the tree down and repair their roof!
having lived there for over 40 yrs, it never ceases to amaze me!!! always take out of area vistors to see it, eat at stories, visit quilt shop both on south side of courthouse. plus auntiques mall on north west corner of square
If you are drivin through Greensburg, IN it is worth a quick stop to see this tree growing ou of the steeple on top of the court house. While visiting there are many local restaurants on the Square worth trying. A nice calm place to eat at is Mayasari just up for the square on the northest side. Anothr fun place to grab a meal if the Carriage House on the Square Smoke House. Grat place to get sandwiches of pulled pork.
This is a fun place to stop & streach your legs. Walk around the square & view the tree from all angles. Stop at the Carriage in the Square Smokehouse food truck across the street for some great smokey cheesy grits, the pork sandwich is pretty good too.
My dad brought me by the courthouse on a roadtrip when I was 13. I was amazed by the sight of a tree growing in the tower of the courthouse back then and I'm still amazed by it today. An unusual sight worth visiting Greensburg for.
