Montefioralle is a very small town in tuscany. Our hosts were friendly and the wine was great. We loved the scenery in montefioralle. It is quiet and intimate, a good break from the cities. The olive oil was so delicious that we had to buy a bottle!
We visited in the fall with advance reservations for a group of 6. They emailed details directions and instructions as the streets are semi hard to navigate for a first timer. We were welcomed in, given a tour of the facilities and then each of us had a small appetizer sampler (home made) with a tasting of 7 wines. The owner was very personable and very happy to talk to us. He was more than willing to carry on a conversation, answer all your questions and give in depth insight to all the wines.
We travelled through the Tuscany region en route between Sienna and Florence. Since it was just a day trip, we thought we'd just hit a couple wineries along the main route to do some tasting and perhaps ship some bottles home. After two disappointing stops, we took a short detour on a whim to follow the signs to Montefioralle, not knowing a winery was nearby. We discovered an absolute gem of a town, smiles, hospitality, and our new favorite wine. The small shop's proprietor guided us through the tastings of his family's wonderful Chiantis -- though that's not usually in our top types of red, we were bowled over. Bold, a bit spicy, fresh but not watery - an amazing and complex glass start to finish. Prices were affordable and the wine was totally worth shipping home. We bought 6 bottles and have since opened them with various friends. Everyone has volunteered that this is very unique, wonderful, special. I just ordered a few more bottles which we'll share over the holidays. From the town, to the family growers, to the taste, it was one of the highlights of our trip.
We visited shortly after harvest on what turned into a beautiful afternoon for tasting wine outdoors. The view was spectacular, and the wine was pretty good too. Our hosts were kind and gracious. Our only regret was not buying more wine!
My husband and I went here on our honeymoon. We stayed just up the hill at Villa Bordoni (highly recommend). Montefioralle is beautiful, 1000 year old village that 100 people live in during the high season. The winery is family owned, the daughter in-law of the owner did our tasting, she was sweet, welcoming and very knowledgeable. The wine was excellent, my husband shipped two cases home! The winery only produces 10,000 cases (I think that number is correct?) per year, which makes it unique and hard to find :) I would highly recommend this winery to anyone visiting the area!
After touring large vineyards we were so pleased that we chose to visit Montefioralle. A small family vineyard that really gives one an appreciation of how things were back in the day before the big vineyards became in vogue. Sitting with the owner in a small group and learning about the wines and the process proved to be an enjoyable and educational experience.
Montefioralle is a wonderful place to see and taste wine, Fernando was an excellent host very hospitable, and the wine was some of the best Chianti we had. It's was so good, I purchased half a case and had it shipped home.
What a beautiful little town Montefioralle is. Well worth the visit. And the winery experience is exactly what we were looking for-an off the beaten path wine tasting experience. Fernando was extremely nice and polite and the setting was and views are extraordinary. If you can make it here, it's an absolute must. I'd do it again!
Montefioralle is a wonderful place to see, Fernando was exceedingly hospitable, and the wine was delicious. It's so good, that I used their super-friendly website to order myself 6 bottles shipped to Texas.
Don't miss this small family owned winery when traveling in the tuscany area. Lorenzo and his wife are very knowledgeable, they respond very quickly by email. The wines are all very delicious, I ordered a case to be shipped when I was there and recently ordered two more. It is very easy to order more wine when you return home. This winery was our favorite during our 2 week visit to Tuscany!!
