We took a bus from Kuching city to Bau using service 3. Leaving a 0740 hrs, we managed to catch the 0900 hrs service 3A to Wind Cave. The driver alighted us at the road junction and we hiked 300 m to the cave entrance. The path is well signed both inside and outside the cave. Make sure you have your own flashlight as it is pitch dark after 15 m into the cave. There are 3 interconnected passages altogether. You can hear and see lots of bats near the entrances. We spend enough time to hike back to the road to catch service 3 to Fairy Cave before 1030 hrs.
The cave are quite impressive as well as their guests (bats). It is a marvel of nature, very big and worthwhile to be visited. Moreover there are several cave in the tour to be visited, please visit all you will find a real gems. Bring with you a torch in the park it is quite difficult to rent one (maybe because I was there during the low season). The place could be reached by bus from Kuching, you get off at Baku bazaar and then take a taxi (30 ringit). I suggest you to ave an agreement with your taxi driver in order to pick up you when you finish the visit otherwise you'll be stuck in the park or you have to do 11 km to the city.
It's good experience when you are inside the cave, many to see and view. My son always thought that there are something abnormal living creatures inside it. When he saw the bats fly around, it's really fantastic view. You can hear a lot of sound in the caves and guess what is it. the formation of granite is great. The caves come with walkways, all you need is just a bottle of water and torchlight.
Easy access and walkways through out. Bring a flashlight to see 1000's of golf ball size bats hanging from the walls and ceilings. Nothing to be scared of because they preferred to stay away from us.
This is a series of long narrow caves...3 of them that you walk through with your own torch. Only takes about 40 min. many bats and they are noisy. there is also a ,lovely spot to swim in the river about 500m past the cave entrance
torch light experience is needed and don't need too much time, you will explore this place with short period whilst you witnesses all the nature! go to wind cave but dont forget fairy cave.. bcs they are near to each other. both need torch! entrance fee cheap and they also rent a hand torch there! convenient!
As the cave was occupied by fruit bats and insect bats mostly, the cave was meant to be dark and humid. Smelly as the caves were filled with bat droppings BUT beautiful in its very own way.The entrance fee was RM1 and that visitors can rent a torch at the fees of RM3. The torch is necessary as the cave was really pitch dark. The tracks were wet and made of wood slats. There were three or four tracks which lead to different scenery..however...I strongly discourage to bring children below age 12 to visit the place because I've seen some kids storming their ways into the caves and the entire path was shaking..others were scared and terrified due to the darkness...
The Wind Caves were OK,if you are in the area they are probably worth a visit but not worth a special trip....unless it is the wet season & then they would probably be quite spectacular. A torch is a necessity as are reasonable shoes.
well I still trying to work out why they are called wind caves, no wind at all, loads of mosquitos and bats, personally I would rename them bat caves as thousands of bats live there :-)
It was a great place for nature lovers and families who want some adventures. However, it was very dark and the floor were slippery and uneven. You need to be careful and better bring an extra torch as rental fee for a torch is RM3.
