Cosy square with many old buildings of high architectural value. Easy going, nice terraces. On the corner of the square you'll find a nice Winebar Viqh and on the square the Cafe Brinkmann has both good quality beverages and services
A clean well presented market giving amazing value.Stall holders helpful and friendly. Not pushy and loud as in Britain.Very colourfull
We stopped by Haarlem on our way to brussels, it was nice & quiet when we went - unfortunately the church was closed as it was a Sunday :(ALSO would have loved to have gone when the market was on but alas.
Haarle mhas a very beautiful center. A visit worth. after visiting the all these nice locations, like the Hofjes you can relax at one of the terraces and hen its too cold or to wet inside the numerous pubs and restaurants.
Grote Markt in Haarlem is a beautiful large square, dominated by the fantastic St Bavo Cathedral, an amazing enormous bulding. The square is surrounded by lots and lots of nice restaurants and bars. It works the whole year round as an excellent strolling, meeting eating place.
Lovely market square surrounded by cafés. Large church, lots of shops plus great market on Saturdays
Lovely market to walk around on a Saturday morning! You can find everything from clothing to produced... And great size considering the size of Haarlem.
The grote Markt may not be the liveliest town centre, but it sure is one of the prettiest ones. The architecture all around is historic and beautiful. There are musea, a huge church, good-weather-terraces and market on several days of the week. Very nice for an exploration!
This place - one of the most beautiful, sophisticated places in Europe - functions today as an open-air market during good weather on Saturdays, as it has for more than 500 years. Its highlight is the spectacular Grote Kerk of St. Bavo, a church begun in 1480 and finished about 1520. Inside one finds the famous Haarlem organ, perhaps the most beautiful pipe organ in the world, completed in 1738, and fully functional thanks to years of delicate care by the City of Haarlem. Mozart played this instrument at age 10 in 1766. My wife and I are drawn to this historic place due to the kindness of its people, cleanliness, and just a feeling of belonging. Haarlem is a golden break from the rush of tourists in Amsterdam and is a mere 20 minute train ride away. Please visit Haarlem and enjoy some of the wonderful beer brewed called Jopen Koyt! The Grote Markt and Bavokerk have appeared in paintings throughout the centuries, and Herman Melville even writes about the organ in Moby Dick (1851). Restaurants and pubs here are excellent. The church charges a nominal entrance fee.
spend 4 weeks in Haarlem and visited the grote market quite a few times before, during and after Xmas/new year and although the old building are still there for the main part the market is missing the vibrant atmosphere required for such place come on Haarlem get you act together.
