This is a beautiful place to relax and/or to discover old culture and history, summer and vinter. In the summer there are many cultural events, and in the winter you can visit the winter market. In the museums you must pay a fee, beyond that, there is free entry.https://www.facebook.com/fredriksten.festning
I live just 200m from the castle and use it a lot. It's really nice just to wander around or sit down and view the city beneath. Much old history here and in the summer season the museum here is also open. You can have guided tours as well. A must see place when visiting Halden
it has everything : good for strolling around, a couple of pearl restaurants and also oppertunities for a cold beer. You can see the entire city from here, looking down on it from several looking-points.it has several history-visits if you are interested in more than just walking through it.
A beautiful place to take a day trip, where you can experience the natural beauty, history and architecture + more. It costs nothing to enter the fortress, but to get into musemuene located around the fortress it's costs. One should take a trip into these museums, then you get to experience how things were and see artifacts from the Norwegian history. There are also opportunities for guided tour, then you get to know about the history of the fortress, it is exciting to see.
This fortress overlooking the city of Halden (where I was born and still live) is the main attraction when tourists visits Halden. It's understandable as we, who have lived here all our lives, are extremely proud of this historical fortress that has never been taken by enemy forces. The Swedish warior king, Karl the 12th. was shot here. You will find several beautiful walking paths outside and inside the fortress area. Several historical museums, a souvenir shop that even sells ice cream and soft drinks. A golf course is also included in this lovely spot, and the views, particularly from the Queens lookout gives you a panoramic view of the city, the fjord and the green areas, that Halden and sorroundings areso full of. You can park your car in the big parking area, and even better, you can walk all the way up and get the lovely view on the way. Ask the Tourist information for a map, it's situated on the south side of the city.
The Fortress is a great place to see the views over Halden. The walk up to it is very nice and it is also nice to watch the sunset at the top of the Fortress. At the top there is a museum and a shop and they often hold festivals there during the summer. There was also a lot of old American cars driving around which looked really cool. It was nice to walk around and see the cars as well as the views. Definitely recommend it. There is also a campsite there too.
The place every norwegian should see. This is the only fortress that has never been defeated but ofyen besieged. Here the norwegians shoot the swedish king Karl tje 12th. It was the end of the reign of Sweden in Europe. Nice place to feel the history, and imagine the struggle of the inhabitants.
A great place to visit, has tons of history to it and the castles are almost perfectly intact. the view from the hills are amazing too!
Nice to walk around and see the fortress. Beautiful view. The park area is great and could be a nice sunday walk.
The view from Fredriksten is just breath taking! Please "climb" up from centre of town and you will be rewarded!
