I came here in a group of three and had a great time biking up and down the mountain. The one thing I wish they had said was you don't need to rent the fancy mountain bikes if are no good at mountain biking - I wish I had just gotten the package without the hardcore equipment and saved $20. I took the ski lift option which was good but again in the future I would probably just ride the hills up. Great customer service and excellent equipment.
Have not biked but this resort has great ski runs that are well maintained and excellent considering the Haliburton Highlands are not known for skiing really. The lifts are excellent and the restaurant really good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a resort on the property too so if you want to stay for a few days you can find excellent accommodation. Views of the surrounding lake and countryside.
We went to try snowshoeing and found the staff to be friendly and helpful and they went out of their way to help us! Way above and beyond. We went with another couple and unfortunatly didnt have time to try the restaurant facility there so no idea about that although it seemed quite busy! The rental equipmant was in really good condition and worked perfefctly. They have a really cool moving sidewalk up the hill as well as ski lifts. Thanks goes to Nicole, a ski instructor, for taking the time to help us get going on our snowshoe adventure, and to the rental guy (sorry, dont know his name) for his help!
My family has been coming here for years. Has a real mom and pop feel. Does not feel like some if the corporately run resorts. (Which is what we look forward to) We prefer this ski resort to any other hill in 300 km. Lots if lifts, and runs, if you really need black diamond runs then Ontario is not where you should be skiing. (Don't complain they are not real black runs) There is challenging terrain, and they are improving the park over previous years. We look forward to each visit and drive almost 3 hours to get there. We quite often open and close the hill when we visit.
Love the hills, just right for me, chalet is a great rest spot too, great venue for me and the grandkids.
Our boys have benefited from the ski school here immensely. Their riding really improves every time they get a lesson here! The family run feel at the chalet is warm and comfortable. Service is excellent. You are always pointed in the right direction and made to feel like your business or concerns are important. Well done!
I have been skiing at Sr Sam's for decades and have watched it mature over the years. It is a great place for family skiing and minimal line ups so lots of time actually skiing. A friendly place with great facilities.
My wife and I went along on our children's school trip. My son was new to skiing, my oldest had been a few times, my wife has skied and well I hadn't seen a hill since I was in public school. The process of getting 80 kids, parents and teachers on the hill as fast as possible seemed very efficient. Safety was number one all day. They did an amazing job of ensuring each person was capable of handling the slopes before actually allowing the kids out. The staff made the day, they were all very happy and very encouraging. Thanks for an amazing and safe day. Looking forward to hitting slopes again soon.
The food here was amazing! And the drinks were also great. The setting was right out of a feel good holidays movie. No complaints. Loved it.
We had a lovely day at Sir Sam's. The site is nicely appointed with a chalet at the bottom of the hill, a good variety of slopes, 4 chair lifts and a funny magic carpet hidden within a tunnel that brings you all the way to the top, worth the ride for the fun, the scenery and to get shielded from the wind. The food is what you would expect and is satisfactory. The menu is extensive enough to satisfy everybody. Lunch specials also offered.Reasonable ski rental fees and ski passes when you are there for the whole day.Only improvements I would suggest is more seating space or better seating organisation at lunchtime during busy week-ends and ski passes available by the hour or by the two hours. When you are with a young family of children, you don't ski 4 hours long, at best you'll spend 30 or 45 minutes with your toddler and a bit more with a 5 or 6 year old. Even if the child 6 and under is free, 45 dollars for the half day for each paying adult is hard to swallow when the kids run out of energy after just an hour and three times down the slope.Beside that, can't wait to go back.
