This exhibition on the great body of work Michael Graves has generated throughout his career is impressive. There is a time line illustrating his accomplishments. One of the first sterling silver tea sets he created for Alessi--$48,000 retail!
During the summer the park is open for extended hours. If you show up right before dusk you can experience each exhibit twice: once in the daylight and again with the park's lighting after dark.
We drove through the area on the way to Rat's restaurant (outstanding fine dining), and it was just an awesome surprise. We had no idea about this area until we drove through. It is really amazing at night.
Be very prepared for amazement and laughter. My suggestion is to enter the sculpture gardens through Rats Restaurant and spend an hour or so just meandering through the site. Have a great lunch back at Rats and return afterwards to the gardens for a slow paced walk and realize how much you missed on the first go-round. The sculptures range from modern free-form to breathtaking recreations of famous classic european masterpieces ,,,, that you can walk into and become part of the art. If you do not understand the concept .... you must go and experience this amazing place for yourself. There are some adult themed pieces which may embarrass grandma, but remember that grandma was once young and probably did some slightly naughty things inn her time. This place is unlike any other ... make a full day of it and you will go back with your friends.BRING a camera with a wide angle lens just to be able to photograph some of the biggest smiles ever !
I enjoy viewing fine art and this was not at all disappointing. All sculpture outside and approachable. Enjoyed dining in the restaurant as well
My wife and I took advantage of a beautiful December day to explore Grounds for Sculpture. This is a magnificent destination which so much for the senses. The obvious draw are the huge sculptures located throughout the grounds such as King Lear, the sea serpent and Marilyn Monroe. However, just as special are all of the little gems found throughout the 42 acres, including the many paths, ponds, fountains, foot bridges and the smaller sculptures. I was particularly impressed with the majestic tower featuring Knights on four sides. We also loved the beautiful peacocks strolling the grounds, and on occasion showing off!Towards the end of the afternoon, we decided to have a snack at the Van Gogh Cafe. The chocolate croissant and strawberry lime soda hit the spot. We then went to the gift shop where I purchased a couple of Christmas ornaments that were on sale. Through our visit, we found all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The grounds are immaculately maintained and walking around the grounds is very convenient with interesting sites at every turn. There is even a warming hut which offers a respite on those chilly days. With beautiful art, lovely botanical sites, and different dining options (including the renowned Rats Restaurant), there is something for everyone of every age. Grounds for Sculpture holds its own against other International cultural sites; we are fortunate to have this in Central New Jersey.Go and go often---you will not be disappointed!
Hamilton has a world class art showcase in the Grounds for Sculpture Garden. It's a beautiful way to spend a nice spring or summer day admiring the gardens and sculptures.
I have been here numerous times. I also have downloaded the app that is sort of guide. I don't know that it is really necessary but for $5 I found it useful. There is so much to see I could spend a week there. Every form and influence is on display in one way or another. If there is a particular artist being featured make sure to consider some preliminary study. It makes the whole experience really worthwhile. Lots of walking so wear something comfortable. The whole place is great especially if you are accompanying a handicapped person. My brothers wheelchair fit everywhere and the whole place was pretty accessible for us both. If you are looking for photo ops they are everywhere. If you are looking for top quality restaurant then Rat's is the place. I have never had a bad meal there. Just fantastic food. Overall one of my favorite day trips.
There is plenty to see and you will be walking a lot, you may wanna take some snacks to do some stops.
Beautifully landscaped setting for contemporary sculpture displays and changing indoor exhibits. Nice place to spend a day
