Great stop. The wine maker was very entertaining. Good wine. Good prices. If you are in the are please stop by.
My wife and I decided to try this since it was close to Boyne. We didn't make an appointment in advance, we just decided to show up during business hours and do some tasting and shopping. This is a pretty acceptable thing at all tasting rooms in Michigan. The "tasting room" at Pleasantview is basically a poorly lit garage, with flashing flourescent bulbs that make you feel ill. The staff consisted of one angry, rude man behind a counter, barking orders, speaking so fast you can't understand him, and making you feel very uncomfortable. We tasted several wines within 5 minutes, out of dixie cups, and then were told to buy a bottle if we wanted to. We didn't get much out of the tasting, and we couldn't really tell the difference between each wine since we were so rushed through the experience. I would recommend making the trip to old mission or leelanau. We were very disappointed with this "winery". At least we have a funny story to tell for the rest of our lives, but it was an awful experience.
Our party of five was in for a treat when we had the proprietor of the winery/b&b as our host for our wine tasting. He taught us a lot about the history of the grapes, Michigan planting, etc. The tasting was a good value at $5 per person, which included the glass, and multiple tastes. Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for them, they were out of the white wines for tasting and buying, and had a limited stock of red bottles. We enjoyed most of the reds we tasted. We went strictly for the wine tasting/buying, and did not stay at the B&B, but the grounds looked well tended. Rates appear reasonable, beginning at $84 per night. Based on the comments it appears to be a hit!
Where to begin- Jerry is a crook! He has horrible manners and his staff is not qualified to staff an event. From the moment we arrived to do a walk through of our event space, to the day we checked out, was an over all horrible experience. We had guests arrive from out of town that were insulted by his poor behavior. He tried to peddle his business of on several of our family members. He is a cash only operation as well. Plus, he promises everything and does not deliver. Our wedding was ruined because of his poor quality, luke warm food, staff, unorganized and unprofessional behavior. I walked down the aisle to no music. Also, he told me I could not continue my wedding until a $125 fee was paid in cash. He said this in front of everyone. He was paid immediately. He has no taste as well. He is not a trust worthy person. Please do not make the same mistake we did!
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the American varietal wines. We found them delicious. Jerry, the Vitner was behind the bar in the tasting room. We learned so much about wines during the tastings. It was a delight and a must visit!
We stayed at the bed and breakfast and relaxed on the deck under the trees. It was so peaceful. The waffles were great. We tasted their wines and bought the Ethereal and Glorious. Both delightful! Jeryy and his wife welcomed us and our room was clean and nicely decorated. We will go back this winter because it is so close to Boyne Highlands. They say in the winter we have breakfast by the wood fireplace.
Our stay was short because we were only there for a one-day soccer tournament. However, the hours that we spent at the B & B were enjoyable. Our visit started out with wine tasting. Jerry, the animated/spirited owner, educated us on the different wines/grapes/history/processes, etc. The wine was tasty; the room was very clean; the bathroom was clean and large; the breakfast was delicious and prepared fresh. Bring cash or checkbook for wine purchases as Jerry does not accept credit cards.
We had the chance to visit this vineyard on our Anniversary. We met the owner and he did our tasting. I learned so much about his wines and the grapes he grows. He is a very personable guy and he is a lot of fun. We had lots of tastes and he e ven had a couple of them with us. I B&B. I sounds very reasonable and it was a nice location. If Jerry is any indication of the hospitality you will recieve I am sure it will be great. Thanks for making our Anniversary a great one. We will definatly be back and will tell others of the great place we had the pleasure of finding.
We stayed 1 night at the B & B, last week on a Wednesday night. We were greeted by the owners wife, Jane. One of the wines is "Enaj", which is Jane backwards, fyi. We checked in a couple of hours early, with no issues at all. We were greeted by plenty of treats in the dining area and also a half carafe of wine! We stayed in the only room on the first floor, which was very well kept, well lit, spacious and the bed was really comfortable. We had a complimentary wine tasting, since it is included in the B&B cost. Enjoyed all the wines, especially the red Ice Wine! It was a beautiful day, so we spent time out on their spacious, undulated back deck area, drinking wine and eating dinner. The next morning we had a huge breakfast that consisted of eggs cooked any way you want, oatmeal, fresh fruit, cereal, doughnuts and more! The cost is extremely reasonable for the quality of service, food and experience you are getting at pleasantview winery and B&B!! Jerry and Jane were fantastic and I would recommend a relaxing, romantic getaway to this place to anyone!!
We barely made it up the driveway on a cold rainy spring day. Jerry was very entertaining and taught us a lot about the new American cold hardy varietal grapes. He said we were "virgins" until tasting his grapes that he refers to with feminine qualities. The B & B sounds pretty interesting and quite inexpensive. If you are in the area...be sure to make this a definite stop!
