Unfortunately there was construction just now, so it was a little difficult to access. The park is beautiful and the carousel a treat. I was surprised that the Native American garden was full of weeds.
Was lit for the holidays. Nice walking trail that takes you up and over by the State Government buildings.
Bushnell Park's Winterfest is a great way for the community to enjoy free ice skating in the winter. They provide skates to those that need them, and there was also a chance to visit with Santa Claus if you went at the right time. This is a great free activity to do with family and friends. Winterfest runs from (I believe) the end of November to the beginning of February. Bushnell Park does also have events at other times of the year, including quite a few in the warmer months.
It has a spacious lawns with squirrels all around. Good view of a Connecticut State Capitol. The Carousel is a must see.
We like the openness of the park. You can ride the carousel, pick up a bite to eat from several food vendors, take a seat and enjoy the sound of the city...close to the capital and other businesses, it is safe just use common sense. The oddest thing we saw was a man with his son trapping pigeons...oh well, it is the city after all.
We saw the soldiers and sailors memorial arch, the Corning fountain and ,we didn't stay very long as it was a cold day .we plan to return in the spring, as we are told its beautiful then.
New York City has Central Park, Chicago has Lincoln and San Diego has Balboa; every city needs a huge space of green where city folk can unwind and relax in the grass: in Hartford, there is Bushnell Park. While not as large or overwhelming as those mentioned above, Bushnell offers some excellent sites, such as the Sailor and Soldier Memorial Arch, embossed with the heroes of the Civil War (see photos); the quaint Pump House (see photos) and an array of fountains and walking paths. Overlooking all .... the majestic State Capitol building.
This is a lovely park that would make for a nice walk. During the summer months a couple of food trucks line the street and there will be some summer concerts. During the month of December a skating rink opens for everyone to enjoy. It's a lovely park with a beautiful carousel for children to enjoy. Grab a blanket and bring a picnic basket, it's the perfect park to do so.
During a business trip met a friend and took a stroll downtown. What a wonderful "discovery" finding this park. It's lovely landscape with its 100 year old renovated carousel is a slice out of another time. No wonder Mark Twain loved this town. This park feels like the soul of a town who is about to see better days ahead. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon.
The carousel in Bushnell Park is fun and only costs one dollar. The horses are nicely decorated and the ride is fairly long. A must for kids!
