These people put your trash to good use and it is great! I love the creativity that comes along with the trash collectors. I wouldn't just go there though. I went there with some friends. It is great for kids though.
Very informative and interesting for ALL ages. Things for the kids to do. Never look at your trash the same way again. Worth a visit.
It is interesting seeing what happens when things get recycled. It is informative. It is also interactive. X rating 7.4
I just don't know - my kids love visiting the garbage museum! Ages 7 and 8 at the time. it is an interesting relatively small place, that you can visit for an hour or two. There is a nice video presentation, but their favorite part is the viewing window - where they thrill in looking for rats to run out the garbage that is dumped by trucks to be sorted for recycling. I think they saw a mouse once - that's about it.There is a huge garbage pile the kids like to look at - like an iSpy, an art space, and a sparkly driveway. The gift shop is tiny - but the kids always manage to find something anyhow. I guess it is definitely worth going if you want to please the children - in fact I guess we are due back for a visit!
Down a side road in the midst of an industrial park is the last place you'd expect to find a gem, but it's in there, under all that trash. The Trash Museum is a great place for kids and grown-kids alike to get a reality check on where all the stuff we buy and use really ends up. The main focus is learning the importance of recycling and then showing you how it's actually done right before your eyes. Over-sized displays and interactive activities are designed to bring learning to the kid in all of us, or with all of us. The staff was super friendly and truly wanted to share their knowledge with the visitors. The minimal entry fee is well worth it. You'll be done in less than an hour, unless you get caught up in the scavenger hunt, which can be too fun to quit.
I went with my nephews after seeing it featured on a local TV show. The boys were 2 and 4 and really enjoyed the movie, the conveyor belt that they could operate and the arts and craft area. When you go to the second floor you can look out and see the recycling operation. There were lots of trucks dumping and equipment moving and sorting trash. It was about an hour + self guided tour. Not an over crowded museum so there was no waiting to do or see things.
A very well done, unique museum with an extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. You can see the entire museum in an hour or less. Don't let the fact that it's about trash dissuade you; everyone in the US throws things away and many recycle. That fact alone drives some fascinating statistics.
This is a great little museum. Very well planned and lots of hands-on things to do for kids and adults. If you are interested in recycling and ecology, it is a must-see.
Not worth the trip, lacks imagination. It could be so much more. I have business there regularly & they make no change.
A group of Friendship Force members from Toronto visited this Trash Museum with the Hartford group. What an unexpected morning of interesting information. This is a great museum allowing us to see a working trash recycling plant. There are cameras showing the working conveyor belts and viewing windows allowing us to see the workers on the job. Well done. I am wondering if we have anything like that around here? A must see if you are interested in the environment.
